She covers how biases can impact recruiting and hiring, as well as the importance of inclusive communication, sponsorship, and mentorship. 💬 The course also discusses why belonging matters, how to interrupt microaggressions, and how to evaluate your organisation for transparency and accountability, among much more. 🌟 Everyone has a role to play in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices! It is important to continue growing and learning to become a better ally in the workplace! Just finished the course “Foundations of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging” by Dereca Blackmon! Check it out: https://lnkd.in/gHBVBTaw #diversityinclusion #allyship. The topics discussed in this course are of great importance to me and I plan to take my values of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB) to all my future work. My biggest takeaway from this course was the difference between diversity, inclusion, and belonging. Diversity is a recruitment effort to hire people from diverse backgrounds, communities, experiences, etc. whereas inclusion and belonging relate to retainment and organizational culture. As Dereca Blackmon discusses, I strive to be a voice of DEIB initiatives in my workplaces, find allies with similar values, and drive change in the organization and its impacted communities. Building a sustainable future comes with caring for people and planet simultaneously; I cannot wait to continue building my knowledge in both these areas as well as their intersections.

Check it out: https://lnkd.in/dzPjpAKy #diversityinclusion #allyship. The world of diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging (DEIB) can be both empowering and overwhelming at times. How can someone get started in this space? In this course, Dereca Blackmon highlights how you can play an important role in DEIB. Dereca explains key terminology and the business case for diversity, then dives into best practices for diversity, inclusion, belonging, and equity. She covers how biases can impact recruiting and hiring, as well as the importance of inclusive communication, sponsorship, and mentorship. Dereca goes over why belonging matters, how to interrupt microaggressions, how to evaluate your organization for transparency and accountability, and much more. Everyone has a role to play in diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging practices! What I learn from here:- Diversity is being invited to the party Inclusion is being asked to dance Belonging is being able to dance, how you want Equity is picking up the DJ Equality gives everyone a show of fairness Equity gives every person what they need to succeed Belonging Matters Practice culture humility Reduce impact of bias in hiring "LIKE-ME Bias", Idea of "FIT" Avoid discriminations Separate intent from the impact Build positive work culture Learn from communities Setting the table prior to hiring support ERG (Employee Resource Groups) "See the ripple effect" #Innovation #Retention #OraganizationCulture #InclusiveMindset #Transperency #Accountability #Fairness
