The Petroleum Legislation Amendment Bill 2023, passed by the Western Australia Parliament, strengthens the state's petroleum legislation. The bill supports the Cook Government's commitment to achieving #netzero #emissions by 2050. It provides a #legislative #framework for the #transport and geological #storage of #greenhousegases, promoting carbon capture and storage initiatives. The bill enables exploration for naturally occurring #hydrogen, offering a potentially low-emission alternative #energysource. Additional amendments include provisions for polluter pays, royalty metering, underground storage of petroleum, and blending of additives in pipelines. These amendments affect the Petroleum and Geothermal Energy Resources Act 1967, Petroleum Pipelines Act 1969, and Petroleum (Submerged Lands) Act 1982. #ccs #decarbonization #WesternAustralia https://lnkd.in/g7weu6-7

Federal government is relenting slightly on 𝗘𝗹𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗴𝘂𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 amid mounting pressure. ⚡ "Federal Environment Minister Steven Guilbeault has seemingly given a little bit of leeway on so-called ‘clean electricity’ regulations aimed at creating a net-zero grid by 2035. 🍁 Under a series of 10 tweaks announced Friday, grid operators would have more flexibility to address peak power needs and the use of ‘stand-by’ — or ‘on demand’ power sources such as natural gas — to “support the buildout of cleaner technologies” and a more flexible approach to cogeneration. ‘Cleaner’ facilities such as natural gas would be able to run longer than comparable coal units. 👏 🍁😯 The changes would also allow for the use of so-called ‘offsets’ for power plant operators who exceed a given limit “despite having acted in good faith to remain in compliance.” 🔗 https://ow.ly/afCG50QFTlN #carbonzero #naturalresources #conservation #renewableenergy Canadian Natural Resources Enbridge FortisBC Imperial Oil First Nations LNG Alliance Canadian Association of Petroleum Producers (CAPP) Indigenous Resource Network Mining Association of Canada

The study finds this so it must be true. Easy. Let's just forget that Oil&Gas is a long-term business. If you explore a new oil&gas field today, you often won't be producing commercial flows of product before a decade is out. I am talking about conventional oil&gas. But if this study made an impact and then the world finds out that it does not have enough of it, it will need fast solutions. What's faster than conventional oil&gas? Yes, shale is much faster. Shale does in months what conventional often does in many years. When prices rise enough, shale drillers can squeeze the lemon far harder for quicker so the authors of this study have poured some virtual water on the wheel of shale. https://lnkd.in/dMgsZYQv

What’s the point of building renewables and “electrifying everything” inside our borders if we’re simultaneously generating ever increasing amounts of CO2 and methane via exports? It’s the same atmosphere, you know. https://lnkd.in/gXN-xjm4

Attendees at our packed out Perth Basin event earlier this year will have no doubt that the nature of the state's Domestic Gas Policy has been the cause of significant (quite hot) debate. So yesterday's announcement of a revision to the policy is the big news - or is it? It seems like it might be a case of trying so hard to please everyone that it pleases no one. Check out our article below and let us know what you think in the comments! #domesticgas #energyindustry https://lnkd.in/gqfD_N_Z

When can we expect a decline in world oil production following a decline in US shale oil production? According to renowned US geologist and oil and gas expert Arthur Berman, within this decade, maybe already in 2-3 years!! In other words much sooner than most people think! So how about renewables! And why is US Shale oil production so important to understand for economic conditions in the near and long term? Join us for a really important conversation on the Evolution Show! And don´t miss part 1 where our focus is on the nearby decline in world natural gas production following the beginning of the end for the US Shale boom! Cheers!
