Our PhD student Rachel Hill has weighed in on the mystery surrounding the UK's oldest space satellite. Skynet-1A has been moved by somebody and no one knows who or why. You can read Rachel's theory, based on research for her PhD, here: https://lnkd.in/esFWvwUY You can also listen to an interview with Rachel on BBC 'Newshour' (from 26 min 42 sec): https://lnkd.in/eqhwCpvn

"If we as humanity more generally and as regulators of space more specifically see outer space as environment, I feel like there are lots of normative, philosophical, political implications following that starting point. What I am trying to do in my research is to explain how we can expand what environment is and how we can incorporate this in the way that we regulate outer space", states Associate Fellow Güneş Ünüvar during his latest interview for AIA's Impulse series. In this interview he sheds light on pressing questions: Is there a risk of being hit by falling satellites? What threats does space debris pose? And why should we consider space as an "environment"? For my colleagues joining the executive branch this year, and curious ones in congress, I really suggest you browse the Space Agenda 2025 by Aerospace. Aerospace is an FFRDC, so you know they put in the hard effort to condense thorough background into short papers full of the most pressing regulatory issues and their possible outcomes. If your portfolio touches the space economy, human spaceflight, the ISS, the EU, Russia, Ukraine, or the moon, you'll find what you need here. Click the pdf to see each chapter. https://lnkd.in/e_QPRN35
