We used synthetic audio for this podcast. I wanted to have Sebastian Göttel on our podcast, but he was iffy on talking about technical topics in English. (For the record, he would have been fine.) So we settled on a German podcast with English audio generated by AI. I'm very pleased with the outcome, and I hope you enjoy the conversation--in English or German! Production notes: * We recorded in German using our standard process. * We generated a transcript from the recording and spent some time cleaning it up. * The edited transcript was machine-translated into English and again, we cleaned it up by hand. * We generated Sebastian's audio from the English transcript. * I re-recorded my audio in English, largely reading from the transcript. * We then put it all back together to create the final English version. * This was actually a LOT of work, but worthwhile to get a new voice into the conversation in English. * The audio sounds just like Sebastian, but there's an Uncanny Valley effect.

Did you know that AI can make a podcast for you on which ever topic you want? I tested this with my recently published article (only in Finnish atm) about RUN European University as a cross-boarder future-oriented university, and as an outcome I have an AI generated English spoken podcast, which is, bit surprisingly, pretty cool! My favorite part is the end, how AI actually succeeded to summarize quite well the conclusions of my text: "Even with all the uncertainty in the world, there's still hope. There's innovation and there's power of us working together. Who knows, maybe the seeds of a more unified, resilient and thriving Europe are being planted right now in the class rooms and research labs of RUN-EU." Word! Brene and Esther highlight how judicious use of technology can enhance our lives and foster community. In contrast to how many people and companies are currently attempting to. There’s an inherent necessity to examine and diversify in-person and virtual communication.
