🚀🚀New Research Alert! 🚀🚀 I’m thrilled to announce the release of our latest scientific article! The urgency for effective measures to prevent (sexual) violence in sports is high. 👥 In response to this, we’ve piloted an innovative, evidence-based bystander intervention targeting youth sport coaches in Flanders, Belgium. 🎯 Our goal? To empower these coaches to act as positive bystanders in the detection and response to situations of sexual violence. 📈 The result? - Coaches acknowledged the value of being a positive bystander - Coaches felt more comfortable in this role - Coaches believed that their actions as a positive bystander would improve the situation ➡️ Our study indicates that youth sport coaches can be positively influenced by a bystander intervention. But remember, we all have a role to play when it comes to safeguarding sport participants! ❗See something, do something!❗ Together, let’s make sports a safer place for everyone. 🤝 Interested in the full article*? https://lnkd.in/ezFhKEkX *First 50 copies are free. AHHH---CHOOO!! OOPS! Did you just leak a little? Did you know, that's not normal? What most women accept as normal as they age and have children is not medically the case. Pelvic floor therapy does not only help control dribbles while coughing or laughing, there are so many great benefits and most women don't know there is help. Kristyn Riley, Women's Health Physical Therapist at the Therapy and Sports Rehab Center specializes in treatment and therapy for many conditions that may be causing pain, discomfort, and disruptions to women's daily lives. "Through therapy many women start to see results in just a few sessions!" Learn more: https://wix.to/JqFgmDg

BSL summary: https://lnkd.in/gc-bmXZG Yesterday, 12 March 2024, we held a hybrid community information event for the Justisigns2 & the Royal Society of Edinburgh funded #SILENTHARM projects. Funded through the Heriot-Watt University internal impact fund to accelerate translation of research to impact, we co-delivered with officers from PoliceScotland. The session was divided into 4 parts: 1) Identifying domestic abuse - what is it? 2) You have identified you are a victim, or you know someone who is - what to do next? 3) You've contacted the police- what service do you get? 4) Other things in place to support. There were also contributions from Contact Scotland, Tayside Deaf Hub & Cats Protection on how deaf people can report domestic abuse, access support & also make sure their pets are protected if they want to leave an abusive relationship. People in the room & online included deaf women, interpreters, representatives from SignHealth & the #ScottishEthnicMinorityDeafCharity Thanks to: Deaf Action for hosting the in-person venue (with tea & biscuits!) & organising the livestream (sorry no virtual tea & biscuits!); Lucy Clark for being MC; & all contributors & attendees for making it such a successful event This type of event illustrates the importance of #partnership & #collaboration in achieving real world impact from research - making a difference to people's everyday lives Free resources from the projects are available for deaf people, interpreters & anyone working in a professional capacity with survivors of domestic abuse on the following websites: https://lnkd.in/gyTDZhyE https://lnkd.in/g7vJcGaH There is also a mini-documentary in BSL about deaf women's experiences of domestic abuse in the UK based on our research (trigger warning: some of the scenarios may be upsetting to watch): https://lnkd.in/g9rXRQSs A video recording of the event is available here: https://lnkd.in/gBGc7m_A These important projects have been challenging in many ways due to the content, but so worthwhile. We will continue to seek funding to further the cooperation as we have only just scratched the surface.

Mapping out the perpetrators of online sexual abuse is an important step in this field!
Who does this? 😕 Across the Nordics, as other regions of the world, we are faced with the consequences of online sexual abuse in our justice systems, child protection systems, schools, work market, media and personal lives. The effects are harmful to individuals and society alike. A lot of my research has focused on responses to online sexual abuse. This October I will approach the topic from a different perspective when me and the amazing Moa Bladini will present the findings of a research we conducted with Wanna Svedberg Andersson, Christian Mogensen and Thordis Elva for NORDREF Nordic Digital Rights and Equality Foundation aimed at mapping out the perpetrators of online sexual abuse. We wanted to understand who they are, why they do what they do and help develop ways to prevent their actions. Join us October 7th, online or onsite at the University of Gothenburg. Hello everyone, i want to thank the Board of KCH ORG (katalemwa CheshireHome for Rehabilitation Services)Here in Uganda,, there is one or two things I would like to know or to understand from especially the Executive Director & HR as well, 1.Why some leaders within that hospital taking themselves as rude/harsh especially to PWDs as if they don't know terms and conditions,, like Ms.manager Shifah the one in metal febrication? 2. There is a certain word you normally use if any one with Disabilities with qualified documents he/she apply apply for that position or any he can afford so when it comes to that, you won't give them a chance for that person to express his skills to you? 3. Do you fulfill your words as katalemwa CheshireHome through supporting PWDs? if yes why do you like making excuses when it comes hiring applicants especially Pwds compared to Ordinary people? N.B I will be more Glad to receive your response from Board leaders not staff please FROM MR. CLEVER

The conflation of sexual orientation with gender identity has created the straw man of trans conversion therapy. "Instead, therapy should aim to explore unconscious motives and conflicts. Therapy exists to help individuals gain insights into their own conflicts and motivations - not all of them conscious - so that they can make informed decisions about their lives. It is not for the clinician to convert the patient to their way of thinking. Instead, therapy should aim to explore unconscious motives and conflicts. The dangers of quick-fix psychological solutions with long-term unacknowledged costs are real and leave underlying problems unaddressed. Having been part of the management of the most considerable NHS training for twenty years and regularly dealt with complaints, I've never heard of one complaint regarding conversion therapy. Speaking as a clinician who sees gender-confused kids, I can say from experience that the real worry is that kids with severe comorbid problems see this as putting a lid on underlying difficulties and rushing into an intervention that has irreversible long-term costs. Susan Evans and I have spoken to many experienced psychotherapists who already avoid taking on these kids due to the fear of complaints. This complex presentation of these kids requires experienced people to undertake the nuanced psychological work, but they largely vote with their feet. Marcus Evans Psychoanalyst
Lloyd Russell-Moyles' proposed bill to ban conversion therapy will be debated in the Commons on Friday March 1st. We met with Lloyd to discuss it and then sent him the following letter outlining our concerns that a legislative ban will harm those it is designed to help. https://lnkd.in/ejYSWcTs
