💥 While emergency response is essential, the financial and human costs of dealing with disasters can be greatly reduced with proper preparedness. This can involve infrastructure upgrades, policy development, and resource stockpiling, which mitigate damage and prevent the loss of life, minimizing recovery costs. #DynamicInternational #EmergencyPreparedness #DisasterPrevention #EmergencyResponse #EmergencyReady #RiskManagement

In 2022, during the initial meetings with authorities and stakeholders for three-year disaster risk reduction and management project funded by ECHO, I exactly used the same words Adel Salah mentioned to emphasize the importance of preparedness. Little did I know, those words would resonate deeply with me over the next three years. We tackled every aspect of disaster risk reduction, from developing policy frameworks and enhancing coordination and information sharing, to conducting thorough risk assessments and analyses. We meticulously planned and implemented preparedness measures and established early warning systems based on existing capacities. What struck me most was the shift in mindset among communities and stakeholders. Instead of asking, 'Where is the response?' ahead of disasters, they began to ask, 'Where is the preparedness?' This change was a testament to the profound impact of the project.

One Dollar preparedness saves Seven Dollars of response. #today_wisdom
