Most people won't know: Bio-safety level 4 (BSL-4) is the highest level of biocontainment precautions used in laboratories. It is designed for work with dangerous and exotic pathogens that pose a high risk of aerosol-transmitted infections, which are often fatal and lack available treatments. BSL-4 labs require stringent safety measures, including full-body, air-supplied suits, and specialized containment facilities. In general, for normal bio-production of e.g. vaccines, BSL-4 is not needed. It is difficult and costly to implement. Why there should be so many such facilities is questionable.
Tulsi Gabbard warns of 25-30 U.S. biolabs in Ukraine. However, they are not the only threat. There are 51 operational Biosafety Level 4 (BSL-4) laboratories across 27 countries, with 3 additional labs under construction and 15 more planned. Approximately 75% of these facilities are situated in urban areas. There must be an immediate and complete global moratorium on gain-of-function research, along with comprehensive investigations into the growing number of U.S. and international biolabs—including their funders—that may be conducting bioweapon research, to prevent another man-made pandemic.
