Conversation design | Generative AI | Linguistics | NLU/NLP | technical communication | I build communities
Dear convofriends! Happy to announce that there WILL be an October cohort for GenAI design for conversations and content! And it's open for enrollment right now, details in the first comment. An important foundation of my course is that I don't just teach how design things, but I also feel it's important that you understand some of the underlying technical concepts. To give you little preview, here's an explainer of RAG, including a look at actual chunks and vectors in MindStudio, the platform that we use in this course for building our GenAI applications. Headsup: linguistic nerdery at the end! 🤓 #conversationalai #generativeai #fortheloveoflearning
Cohort 6 is open for enrollment (and some RAG nerdery!)

Our Global Client Evangelist, Ishan, spoke to a group of Finnish education experts in London last night about the value of AI when used with nuance. Read all about his experience in this thoughtful post. #edtech #digitalassessment #ai
Last night marked a convergence of two worlds as I had the privilege of delivering a keynote to a distinguished audience of Finnish educators at a seminar brilliantly organised by Risto Korhonen and the team at Ilona; our partners in Finland. The event, hosted in the Inner Temple – a place with sentimental value as it once housed my chambers during my practice at the Bar. We explored how leading higher education institutions can seamlessly deliver flexible assessment with integrity through the Inspera Ecosystem. Delving into the nuanced application of AI instead of just tagging it onto anything, the continued growth of authentic assessment, and the implementation of integrity measures tailored to specific contexts. Along with my colleagues Anthony Brockley and Salome Neves it was fascinating to hear first hand from educators how they see assessment evolving. In the realm of education, expertise is paramount. Expert educators possess an unparalleled understanding of their cognate subject, students and learning, teaching and assessment. At Inspera, we are dedicated to facilitating digital enablement for expert educators, by working together to improve assessment #DigitalEnablement #DigitalAssessment #NuancedAI (Can anyone guess the colour of my shoes last night? Have a go in the comments)

Here's a video case study on our work with STIR education in Indonesia, a great NGO who are focussed on helping teachers love teaching and students to love learning. https://lnkd.in/eij_YX8Q We interviewed over 500 respondents and then delivered their impact report using our AI. While not perfect (it still needs some human editing) the process of discovering qual and quant insights is much faster. My sense is this will be how this works in the future for most development banks and NGOs: Humans and machines working together rather than machines taking over entirely. We've now interviewed thousands of people using avatar technology in 15 countries and this was our first project in Indonesia. My thanks to STIR, particularly John McIntosh, Yoni Nurdiansyah, and everyone involved in the pilot.

As students up and down the country sit their GCSEs, those who have been tutored may feel prepared to come through the stress of exams. However employing a tutor is expensive and – however qualified the teacher – far from a perfect solution. Tassomai, third on our #EdTech 50 ranking this year, believes it could have the answer with #AI tutor Mai. "By leveraging our data, we found we were able to make in Mai a compelling, powerful in-app tutor with tremendous capabilities,” founder and CEO Murray Morrison tells us. “Tuition with Mai can guide a student on a really human level and draw the right answers out of them, from their own knowledge and memory, and then help them to build on that. “The result is that Mai stands an amazing chance of replacing conventional tutoring in the near future.” Mai is also available 24/7 – at the precise moment the student needs them. “This is a huge advantage over conventional tuition where students need to recall, in a scheduled session, something they struggled with days earlier… that is practically impossible,” says Morrison. https://lnkd.in/etH7S586

Is anyone a subscriber to @edweek? The piece on AI (page 9) is a worthy discussion. Not a new one. If you read the article... do you think all teachers can sway and shift their teaching strategies to incorporate AI like this English teacher, Mr. Sell? And, will credentialing programs support future teachers how to use AI rather than traditional teaching methods? Lastly, is it important that HS graduates can write on their own with out AI? https://ew.edweek.org #education #newtimes #AI

Writing in our new report, David Weller of the University of Exeter suggests: “Teachers will have to come up with more interesting ways to set homework that doesn’t rely on lower order skills such as memorisation and regurgitating facts.” To read what else he thinks, check out our latest report “Friend or foe? Teacher attitudes to artificial intelligence”. #AIinEducation #TeachingFuture #EdTech
