🌱 #InnoVarINVITE Final Conference Part 1 featured a panel session with a diverse group, including representatives of the breeding sector, CPVO, EU-VCU network, as well as coordinators of InnoVar and INVITE projects, who came together to share their perspectives on the outcomes of the two projects. 💬Bronislava Batorova, Community Plant Variety Office (CPVO), emphasized the potential of emerging technologies to enhance variety testing, but highlighted the need for careful evaluation of their cost-effectiveness. Collaboration between researchers and testing officers remains essential to improving the system. 💬Fabien Masson, GEVES, pointed out that while some tools are still in development, others, like molecular markers for tomatoes, are close to being adopted. They reiterated the importance of linking scientists and the variety testing community to maximize impact. 💬francois laurens, INVITE, stressed the need to sustain collaboration between researchers and testers, ensuring the projects' impacts endure. He acknowledged that challenges such as sustainability and climate change will continue to shape the field and underlined that despite advancements in technology, the human element in variety testing remains indispensable. 💬Nigel Moore, KWS Group, underscored the role of high-throughput methods in increasing efficiency and emphasized the importance of finding the right applications through detailed work. 💬Fiona Doohan, H2020 InnoVar, discussed emerging technologies like satellite imaging, which would complement phenomics, rather than replace. 💬Lisa Black, H2020 InnoVar, highlighted the need to focus on reduced impacts and varietal performance under these conditions. #varietytesting #VCU #DUS EU Science, Research and Innovation EU Health and Food Safety
