#MondayMusing The worst reason to lose talent How many times do we read posts or have conversations about rewarding talent so they have no reason to look outside the organization? I would be keen to find someone in a leadership role who doesn’t think they’ve internalized this notion or actively practices it. And yet, losing talent over compensation or lack of recognition remains prevalent. I think it boils down to two simple reasons: 1. Decision-makers and their organizational systems are ill equipped to gauge the personal nature of reward. Financial advancement is a given, but do you know what your talent actually wants? 2. Leaders usually have a higher emotional connection (and financial stake) in an organization, this attachment is often mistakenly assumed to be true for other talent. Even if it is, employees are rarely keen to make sacrifices for the sake of their employer for free. We are living in an age of “personalization” - we can produce thousands of creatives for a single marketing campaign, choose between hundreds of toothpaste brands and variants, and yet we can’t seem to find a way to collectively personalize talent management and reward. And in truth, how can we even start having this conversation when many are still stuck at “working from home kills culture”? #employeeengagement #employeerecognition #work #talentmanagement #leadership #changemanagement

Happy Hump Day! Today, let’s explore the impact of the two “F”s of leadership: Fear and Follow. Both can drive job completion, but they affect employee retention and growth in very different ways. Fear-Based Leadership: Leaders who use fear as a tool often achieve quick results. The pressure to avoid negative consequences can push employees to meet deadlines and accomplish tasks. However, this approach can create a high-stress environment, lead to burnout, and foster a culture of anxiety. While it might get the job done, fear-based leadership can hurt employee morale and retention in the long run. Employees are likely to leave for a healthier work environment where they feel valued and respected. 💼😟 Follow-Based Leadership: On the flip side, leaders who lead by example and inspire through their actions tend to build trust and loyalty. When employees see their leaders actively participating, supporting their team, and demonstrating commitment, they are more likely to feel motivated and engaged. This approach encourages professional growth, as employees are more inclined to follow a leader who embodies the values they aspire to. A follow-based style can enhance employee retention and development, creating a positive cycle of engagement and growth. 🌟🤝 In essence, while fear might drive short-term productivity, a follow-based approach cultivates a healthier, more sustainable work environment. Investing in leadership that inspires rather than intimidates not only retains talent but also fosters a culture of continuous growth. How do you lead or wish to be led? Share your thoughts and experiences below! #HumpDay #LeadershipStyles #FearVsFollow #EmployeeRetention #WorkplaceCulture
