The worst-case scenarios are worse🔥🌳. The most granular and empirical analysis to date of the projected economic impact of worsening climate damages is so terrifying because the scenarios it explores are so plausible. I know some climate change skeptics -- perhaps you do too. This is a fascinating article by Jury Gualandris, who went undercover as a climate denier on LinkedIn to engage compassionately with skeptics and spark informed discussions. It's a great read for anyone who cares about promoting science-based dialogue and making strides in sustainability. #ClimateChange #Sustainability

Asking #OPEC to stop producing oil/gas is like asking any business to stop selling its main products; it will never happen. By contrast, a demand-side #decarbonization strategy by #cities and #bioregions, which consume 80% of #energy as BUYERs and emit 70%+ of #carbon would work since cities want declining prices for clean energy, not volatile oil/gas prices. My "#Gaiapolis Strategy" book lays out a global framework and roadmap for rapid #urban decarbonization, which emphasizes active #citizen involvement with #mayors and local leaders. https://lnkd.in/gmGTQETg

The Green New Deal – Evaluation with the En-Roads Climate Model Evaluating Proposed Climate Solutions What I love about using the En-Roads Model is being able to take any proposed climate solution and being able to evaluate it for its merit from a scientific point of view. Case in point, I am a huge believer in the Green New Deal which addresses climate change from a technical viewpoint and a human vantage point which occasionally gets overlooked when creating answers to our problems. The goal of the Green New Deal is to reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avoid the worst consequences of climate change while also trying to fix societal problems like economic inequality and racial injustice. The Green New Deal as a global climate solution How does the Green New Deal hold up as a feasible response to climate change? After reviewing the proposal, the following can be implemented within the model. The Green New Deal proposes we reach Net Zero which means the number of emissions stops increasing as the amounts of carbon dioxide equivalent are reduced and/or sequestered to the point where there is no net increase. This can be accomplished by: 1) Adopting and maximizing the amount of renewables 2) Implementing a carbon price and optimizing the carbon price 3) Fully leveraging the energy efficiency for transportation and building and 4) Harness carbon removal by technological means. Please note there are various ways to achieve Net Zero emissions. This method is one of many viable ways of reducing the number of carbon dioxide equivalents to the point they are no longer increasing. Application of the EnRoads model to the Green New Deal and its impacts Running the simulation shows that by implementing these policies temperature increase worldwide could be limited to 1.9 C by the year 2100. The simulator also allows us to receive insights into the impacts implementing the Green New Deal proposal which include reducing death from excessive heats in North America by half, eliminating the threat of annual flooding from sea level rise for 26 million people (about the population of Texas), and reducing air pollution from particulate matter @ 2.5 microns over 99%. The possibilities are clear. But getting people to invest at a level to make these a reality is not so clear. I have heard the Green New Deal being described as a “dream”. And it many ways it is. But there is some scientific basis to the plan which I have tried to provide to the reader. Hopefully, this will change the way people view the Green New Deal to be something which might be possible and should be considered as a solution to climate change.
