We continue to advance our work in Hawai‘i, supported by the American Red Cross, with insights gathered by Honolulu-based Ward Research. The study provides deeper insight into the relationship Hawai‘i residents have with financial resilience and how disasters can affect this relationship. The findings will guide our outreach to residents impacted by the 2023 Lahaina Wildfires on #Maui and will be included in an upcoming whitepaper.

Before I joined CelsiusPro/Global Parametrics last year, I was already thinking that the Natural Disaster Fund is a bit of a hidden champion among the structures that were created under the InsuResilience Global Partnership and next to the Global Shield. After working with it for almost a year, I am pretty convinced that the NDF is ready to play a much more central role in addressing the protection gap of climate-vulnerable communities. As a donor-backed risk transfer vehicle, the NDF closes an important gap in parametric insurance value chains in the Global South. The Fund is highly complementary to the Global Shield against Climate Risks and other initiatives that focus on financing insurance and risk transfer projects. It can offer risk capacity (and TA) to risk pools, development insurers, humanitarians, parametric insurance pilots, basically any aggregator of climate risks. With its global portfolio, it already paid out to millions of people in response to the Morocco Earthquake, Hurricane Otis, droughts in African countries amongst other events. Find out about the fund, the impact it had in 2023 and our work in the new Impact Report. (disclaimer, I am aware of the discourse around the term "natural disaster", the name of the fund does not necessarily reflect my opinions in that debate)
In 2023, the Natural Disaster Fund (NDF) contributed to strengthening the climate resilience of 35.7 million vulnerable people. Managed by our Global Parametrics team, the NDF is a public-private partnership funded by UK and German governmental entities. The NDF shares risks with Hannover Re to provide risk capacity for parametric solutions that foster climate and NatCat resilience for poor and vulnerable communities in low-and-middle-income countries across the Global South. Download the full report (👉 https://shorturl.at/CjqxQ) to learn how the work of NDF and its partners has benefited communities across 71 countries. #Resilience is often named as a #CoreValue by companies but is typically only vaguely defined or implemented. Illustrative example here from UNDP on how resilience needs to be built into the infrastructure of communities—one can easily add ‘companies’ here—in order to adapt and thrive in the face of challenges. How does your company promote resilience? Are your products and services built to advance customer well-being and prosperity? #SDGS #SustainableFuture #BusinessForGood
In a world of overlapping crises, communities without robust infrastructure can face prolonged suffering and hindered recovery. Learn how resilient architecture can help promote social cohesion, boost economic prosperity and advance the Sustainable Development Goals. https://go.undp.org/4mY
