The Jathedar of the Akal Takht, the highest temporal authority in Sikhism, possesses the power to issue religious punishments known as "Tankha." These punishments are typically imposed on individuals who have violated Sikh principles or committed acts considered detrimental to the Sikh community. The specific nature of the punishment can vary depending on the severity of the offense. It may involve public apologies, community service, or even excommunication from the Sikh community in extreme cases. It's important to note that the Jathedar's authority is primarily moral and spiritual, and the enforcement of these punishments relies on the voluntary acceptance of the individual concerned. #sikh #Sikhism #akaltakht #religion #spirituality #linkedin

For many faiths, fasting can be a time of personal reflection and sanctification, and also a time of community, fellowship and feasting. What do the scriptures say about the act of fasting? How does it impact our spirituality? Does it bring us closer to God? Join us to discuss these questions and more! Registration link: https://lnkd.in/gAx4M5AK ... What is Scriptural Reasoning (SR)? SR is a tool for interfaith dialogue. People of different faiths come together to read and reflect on their scriptures. Unlike some forms of interfaith engagement, it is not about seeking agreement but rather exploring the texts and their possible interpretations across faith boundaries, and learning to “disagree better”.⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The result is often a deeper understanding of others’ and ones’ own scriptures, as well as the development of strong bonds across faith and non-faith communities. SR is now practiced globally, including in places affected by religion-related tensions and conflict. #interfaith #religion #faith #belief #spirituality #interfaithdialogue #interfaithdiscussion #interfaithyouthcircle #scripturereasoning #unityindiversity #globalunity #bridgenotbarriers #humanity #peacefulcoexistence #embracedifferences #standagainsthate #sginharmony #judaism #islam #christianity #bahai #hinduism #sikhism #buddhist #taoist #fastingandfeasting

Yesterday was Guru Nanak's 555th birthday. He was born in 1469. He travelled on foot about 35000 miles to different countries in Asia to spread his message of the oneness of God, promoting equality, tolerance across religions, and to teach people about the true path of life by meeting people from diverse backgrounds and social classes across different regions, essentially aiming to transcend religious and social boundaries through his teachings. His top 3 teachings are: 1. Nam Japo: To pray in the name of God for his help and guidance. 2. Kirat Karo: To earn an honest living without cheat or fraud. 3. Vand Shaako: To share your fortune with the needy persons. People who started following his advice were called SIKHS ( Sikh means disciple), which later became SIKH religion.

IYC kicked off 2024 with another scriptural reasoning session on fasting, looking at passages from the Qur'an and the Bible. We had a wonderful discussion on the connection between hunger and spiritual focus, the role of individual intention and community celebration, and the challenges of fasting in this modern society. Looking forward to more of such conversations throughout the rest of the year! ... What is Scriptural Reasoning (SR)? SR is a tool for interfaith dialogue.
