UHN in Toronto moved from 4th to 3rd best hospital in the world, just behind #Mayoclinic and #clevelandclinic. What an amazing achievement… There are many insights that come to mind at the moment, but would like to share just one, which fills me with hope: I’ve been lucky enough to have worked for almost 10 years at 2 of the top 3 hospitals in the world (Mayo and UHN). Completely different organizations, mindset, processes, social/national circumstances, etc. Just completely different in almost any way. But both capable of achieving excellence at the highest level. Never think excellence is impossible! Let’s all do our best to contribute to the achievement of the highest possible level of excellence in our own environment! #medicine #medicina #excellence #excelencia #achievements #innovation #inovação #hardwork #team #trabalhoemequipe #esforço
UHN's Toronto General Hospital has climbed to third among the world's best hospitals in a global ranking from Newsweek magazine, its highest spot on the prestigious annual list! TGH's ranking behind only Mayo Clinic and Cleveland Clinic, both of the United States, makes it the top publicly-funded hospital in the world. "This recognition is only made possible because of the collective efforts of #TeamUHN – the dedicated staff, physicians, researchers, learners, philanthropists, Board members and volunteers who everyday are committed to our mission of building A Healthier World." We are attending COG New England, 23-24th April! 🎉 Dan Henley, Helen Shaw (nee Kirkby), and Hugh McEnery will share insights on our ground-breaking approach to virtual and decentralised trials and how we place the participant at the centre of their own trial experience, providing them with more control over how, when, and where they choose to participate. 💡 VCTC is the UK's first and only clinical trial site established specifically to address the burden that participants face when taking part in research studies. 🔬 Come and visit us at booth #25 to find out how we can accelerate your research. 🚀 #COG2024 #empoweringpatients #patientcentricity #decentralisedtrials #virtualtrials #clinicaltrialsite #clinicalresearch

We didn’t win #LionsLair—and that’s totally okay. What we don’t often hear about is the grit behind the scenes when we don’t take home the trophy. But that’s part of the story, isn’t it? The growth happens whether we win or not. We are incredibly proud of the winners who are tackling BIG global problems. 🥇 Grand prize: Infinite Harvest Technologies is making the environment more sustainable. 🥈 Second place: Yellowbird Diagnostics, Inc. is pushing the boundaries of early cancer detection. 🥉 Third place: Maman Biomedical is addressing women’s health through menopause. 🏆 People’s Choice: DOUBL is revolutionizing how bras are designed for women and we are FAN GIRLS! Being in the Top 10 with such visionary entrepreneurs—from doctors to engineers—is truly humbling. To know that our mission to support caregivers stands alongside these groundbreaking innovations shows that caregiving is equally a global issue. We are so proud of our cohort, and we’ll always be rooting for them as they continue to change the world. So, to those who say Canadians “go for bronze”—we challenge that notion. From what we've seen, Canada is filled with nothing but gold, maybe we’re just too humble to admit it! 🇨🇦 Thank you to Innovation Factory , the winners, and everyone involved in this unforgettable journey. We are proud of our cohort, and ready to keep pushing for gold as we all work to change the world. What do you think? Are we Canadians humble. Let’s keep the conversation going. #Entrepreneurship #Innovation #Caregiving #Sustainability #LionsLair2024 #CanadaInnovation #StartupEcosystem

Last week, ieso senior leaders, scientists and clinicians met with Rt Hon Lucy Frazer KC, MP for South East Cambridgeshire and Secretary for Culture, Media and Sport. We discussed with Ms Frazer ieso’s growth to date, the successful NHS partnerships we have formed, our commitment to a responsible approach to innovation, and our investment ambitions for the future as we enter the US market. “It was a pleasure to visit ieso in my constituency, who specialise in delivering online cognitive behavioural therapy. ieso’s tools have the potential to transform the efficiency and quality of healthcare for many of my constituents and beyond. I am proud that South East Cambridgeshire is such a ripe investment environment, particularly for innovative companies, and this venture capital investment by BVCA members into ieso is yet another success story" said Ms Frazer. The meeting was arranged by the British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association, whose Chief Executive, Michael Moore, added: “We were delighted to arrange for the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport to visit ieso Digital Health and demonstrate the real impact that private capital has in small and innovative businesses up and down the country. In 2022, 27.5bn was invested by private capital into UK businesses in sectors across the UK economy, ranging from consumer products to emerging technology. There are over 12,000 UK companies backed by private capital which currently employ over 2.2 million people in the UK. A majority of the businesses backed are outside London and 90% of the businesses receiving investment are small and medium-sized businesses”. 🌟 Big day! ... in still very challenging and tough financial markets... with the ongoing steadfast support of our larger share holders... we have already secured 60% of a new unit rights issue of DKK 8.94 million... for which I am very thankful 🌟. The focused UK strategy 🇬🇧, the strong position of Brain+ to become a leading provider of tech enabled dementia management, and ongoing operational performance and of course the massive unmet clinical need that Brain+ can help address, are among the reasons for such good support. Brain+ is in the early phase of commercialisation, and in 2024 the target is to close sales in the UK, opening up a major market with possibility for major contract. Health tech contracts in the UK of up € 500.000+ is not unusual, and is what Brain+ will work towards in the coming years, starting with smaller NHS Trust sales, building up towards regional reimbursement and large contracts. I have made a substantial investment in this unit rights issue myself, and so has the rest of the board and management. I'd encourage all who have an interest to check out the details about this unit rights issue in the link in the comments. Onwards 🚀

Since 2016, West Virginia University Health System has folded 14 hospitals into its network — including three hospitals last year alone — creating an emerging 25-hospital Goliath that reaches into Pennsylvania, Ohio and Maryland. And in January, the health system, which is branded WVU Medicine, is expected to add the 218-bed Weirton Medical Center in the northern panhandle of West Virginia to the system portfolio, pending regulatory approval, as revenue from overall core operations increased 48.3% to $5.9 billion in 2023 from $3.8 billion in 2021, according to a new report from S&P Global Ratings. The New York City-based agency assigned WVU Medicine’s long-term debt an A rating with a stable outlook. #wvumedicine #healthcare #WVU #hospitals

#Privateequity is part of why, for the short term bottom line, low margin service lines like #pediatrics, #maternalhealth, #womenshealth, #maternalchildhealth are getting shut down https://lnkd.in/dRzbif4N to be replaced with more lucrative services and that is also why doctors are being replaced with cheaper and less credentialed labor https://lnkd.in/ewvUJ_sj while everyone is called “a provider” to obscure and obfuscate and confuse patients. Now, humans are getting replaced by AI as we see with the attempt to replace nurses. https://lnkd.in/dJsYJmrN “Nvidia Wants to Replace Nurses With AI for $9 an Hour” is the headline. Even ostensibly “non-profit” hospitals are acting like private equity. #Patientcentered has become a meaningless buzzword for many, to use in marketing or to win grants. Transparency and choice are essential to being truly patient-centered. Then, doctors and nurses who speak up are mislabeled via the “slander industry” that Wall Street uses to take out any opposition or competition. https://lnkd.in/dYmTHhK Anyone seeking an #ROI in 3 years cannot be genuine on #populationhealth or #health. The time horizons are much longer, especially for the most vulnerable.
Go get them 🏴☠️!! #privateequity is a disaster in #healthcare. Congrats to Ben White on excellent articles on Radiology Partners which “rolled up” ~10-30% of #radiology private practices and has fully infiltrated American College of Radiology and Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), thanks to radiology’s false network “leaders” serving #entrenchedinterests far before #patient interests. Thanks for your feedback about your real world experience Paula Muto, MD with the collapse of your hospital under private equity. "Private equity firms are short-term investors," Eileen O'Grady, research and campaign director for healthcare at the Private Equity Stakeholder Project in Washington, D.C., explained during her testimony. "They usually try to own companies for around 4 to 7 years. During that time, they have to generate as much cash flow as possible, often with a goal of doubling or tripling their investment." To do this, they often turn to debt, she said. Many private equity firms buy companies through leveraged buyouts….”
