If I was launching a brand and had no money, this is how I'd get to know my target audience inside out. → SPEAK TO PEOPLE!! (Use IG polls, post on LinkedIn, DM people who follow competitors, send a Typeform to your network.. be creative, aim for volume) → Reddit (Use Redditlist or r/findareddit to scour relevant subreddits and dive into real-life conversations) → Twitter Advanced Search (Look for specific search terms related to your topic and specify tweets with a certain amount of likes/ retweets to identify the biggest talking points) → YouTube (Search “How to + problem your business solves" to find out about the solutions people are already using) → Amazon product reviews (Search for new arrivals and competitor brands and read reviews to find out what does and doesn't work)

What is Facebook? Facebook is a social networking site that makes it easy for you to connect and share Photos, Videos and Reel with family and friends online. Anyone over the age of 13 with a valid email address could join Facebook. Today, Facebook is the world's largest social network, with more than 1 billion users worldwide. After all, there are already a lot of other ways to communicate online, like through email, instant messaging, and so on. What makes Facebook unique is the ability to connect and share with the people you care about at the same time. Facebook allows you to send messages and post status updates to keep in touch with friends and family. You can also share different types of content, like photos and links. But sharing something on Facebook is a bit different from other types of online communication. Unlike email or instant messaging, which are relatively private, the things you share on Facebook are more public, which means they'll usually be seen by many other people. 🚨FUN WEEKEND RANT!🚨 With the new LinkedIn Video tab, we now have tiktok here. Maybe now we know why the influencer badge started. MSFT has a roadmap to cultivate business influencers on their platform. Got a badge? Next step is to make videos and be an LinkedIn business vtuber! Although this sounds funny it’s actually pretty cool and I support it. Like Snapchat’s stories became a feature everywhere, TikTok in a way is as well and is just an iteration of it. It can be copied and actually made more useful on a better platform without a rabid audience of ridiculousness for massively diluted likes and a massive security hazard. LinkedIn ads work well for SaaS and B2B and who trusts TikTok? I’ll be checking out some video, liking development ones, and seeing if the algorithm sends me things that are actually cool. I use YouTube to keep up with what going on in game industry and full stack dev from what I consider to be primary non manipulated information from people who are willing to speak THEIR truth, up to you to decipher what’s 🌟 and what’s 💩 I avoided the badge because I felt it would turn cringe (maybe i was right) and I also expect LinkedIn video to be kinda cringe. Free speech gets to be that way. But think it will empower people a bit over corporations and make corporation be more real with people. … I only hope the AI features are kept under control cause THAT is a bad combo… for another time! Have a good weekend all!

Never put yourself at the mercy of Facebook, Google, Instagram, or YouTube. For the longest time I’ve said one of the big goals of social media is to get people OFF the platforms onto a list you control. No one knows what these channels will do tomorrow. However, here's what history has proven. The social network (just like Google) is under the thumb of alphabet agencies. It acts in its own best interest and the interest of corporate shareholders. That's a big reason why you shouldn't obsess about vanity metrics like fan count. There are quite a few broke business owners that have over a million fans. There are also quite a few Internet multimillionaires that have under 1,000 fans. Know where the real money comes from, diversify your traffic sources, and be smart about building your audience. I’m doing a training about this in a few weeks.

What if your daily scroll on social media might come with a price tag? Imagine this: just like the e-commerce platforms have started charging a 'platform fee' with every purchase, what if social media takes a similar route? Think about it—social media has built such a massive network effect. People are hooked, and the addiction is real. There is no alternative that even comes close to these platforms today. Now, what if one day we wake up to a monthly subscription just to access our favorite WhatsApp? You’re not paying for a blue tick or an ad-free experience, but for the basic right to scroll, like, and engage. Scary, right? It’s not entirely far-fetched. These companies know how much we rely on them. What happens when they decide to cash in on that? When the 'free' world of social media isn’t free anymore? Would you pay for your daily dose of social validation, memes, or networking? The future might look a lot different than what we’re used to. What do you think—could this be our next reality? 👀

🚀 Did you know that Facebook boasts an impressive three billion monthly active users? It's no surprise that Meta Platforms dominates the realm of social media with its popular platforms like WhatsApp, Messenger, and Instagram, each with over a billion monthly active users! 📈 In the third quarter of 2023, Facebook reached a milestone of four billion monthly core Family product users, solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the industry. 🌏 Social networks have a global impact, with most top platforms originating from the United States. However, the rise of Chinese networks like WeChat, QQ, and Douyin demonstrates the diverse landscape of social media with regional powerhouses. 📱 The world of social networking continues to expand, with an estimated 3.96 billion users in 2022 and growing. The connectivity offered by these platforms transcends boundaries, making it easier for individuals to connect across various spheres of life. 🌟 Stay tuned as the social media landscape evolves further, shaping how we communicate and interact on a global scale! https://lnkd.in/dGznv_n

In the early years after being a super user of Clubhouse changed the trajectory of my career, I would go all in on any emerging social media platform. I posted early and repeatedly on Threads - I’m on a major podcast talking about all of its potential upsides the week it came out. (The mini reemergence of) Clapper and the dawn on Lemon8? Tried it, have a YouTube video on it too. And I’m not even giving honorable mentions to the social media apps I’ve been invited to, poked around, and left. Which brings me to the same argument I’ve made for the past several years when people have asked why/how I run a marketing agency and we don’t manage Twitter/X - There are businesses that build exclusively on one platform and they’re wildly successful. And I’m not even talking about Meta platforms (because we can often visualize the highly successful Instagrammer or Facebook group/page runner.) Businesses built on strictly YouTube or TikTok or right here on LinkedIn, or yes, Pinterest. Not to mention: Clubhouse exploded my network and visibility and we did things other people didn’t and built things other people haven’t — and I know wildly successful people who never logged on. Or who set up an account and left after wasting a day or two and not feeling it. Which is to say: Am I only Bluesky to lurk. Sure am. Might I become obsessed and feel a strategy there is advantageous. Sure might. Do I trust for a moment a “social media expert” telling you that you MUST JOIN (and conveniently- here’s the course/call/package you need to buy this Black Friday)? Absolutely not. The experts I follow are there - looking. But we’re not selling it as a panacea or a requirement - those are the words of an illusionist not a strategist. And for those who would say: From the girl who says “You must get on TikTok”. Here’s what else I’ve read about Bluesky. Bluesky doesn’t have nearly the interest from Gen Z. Bluesky’s daily active users are well behind Threads. And TikTok has years of proven case studies (and a system we know works). It COULD be great. But we don’t need to whip ourselves into a frenzy, IMO.
