Recent discussions highlight differing perspectives on railway safety in the U.S. While lawmakers express concerns about deteriorating safety due to neglect of critical measures, the rail industry argues that safety is improving based on data from the Federal Railroad Administration. The reality likely lies somewhere in between. While there have been significant safety gains in the past, recent years may have seen stagnation or even deterioration. This underscores the importance of ongoing investments in railway safety, including improvements to rail crossings, emergency response procedures, and training. Trilogical's RailBlazer railcar telematics effectively tackles critical safety concerns by mitigating track usage conflicts and alerting to potential train shifts at occupied crossings. This is achieved through the provision of trainset length data and unparalleled location precision of up to 5 feet. Additionally, RailBlazer's ability to monitor railcars' condition and health enables realtime safety alerts on issues such as excessive impact, overload, brake malfunctions, critical failures in wheels/bearings, and end-of-train events. These alerts are instantly transmitted to both the driver and the control center using Trilogical's proprietary Connected Railcars technology, without dependency on cellular coverage. Stay tuned for more updates on RailBlazer as we continue to push the boundaries of innovation in railway safety. #railfreight #realtimeanalytics #saferailtransport #railinnovation #railblazer #digitalrail

According to the U.S. Department of Transportation, there were an average of 1,615 train derailments each year between 2000 and 2022. In 2023, derailments once again surpassed 1,000, highlighting an urgent safety and economic issue with devastating human, environmental, and economic consequences. The railroad industry is vital to the U.S. national supply chain and economy, yet remains vulnerable due to persistent safety challenges. The path to improved railroad safety involves comprehensive analysis, diagnostics, and monitoring to ensure compliance with rules and regulations. Derailments and other incidents are often caused by track and equipment issues, outdated technology, and human error, compounded by a lack of transparency in reporting accidents. Trilogical's RailBlazer technology addresses these critical issues by transforming each railcar into a digital asset, providing real-time insights into railcar location, condition, and health. By deploying advanced telematics solutions like RailBlazer, fleet owners, shippers, and railroad operators can enhance operational efficiency, improve safety, and renew confidence in the rail industry. #railblazer #futureoftransport #digitaltransformation #digitalrail #railfleetmanagement

We started RailState with a belief that better, more transparent data for rail stakeholders would contribute to a more efficient and safe rail system. We've recently made a new step toward that goal. RailState is now tracking train length data to capture the true story of what's moving across North America. Now policy-makers and researchers can get real, useful data to answer the hard questions about how long trains impact rail safety.
How long are the trains moving on US railroads? What are they carrying? Despite widespread interest in these questions, there is very little available data. Until Now. RailState's recently expanded sensor system in the southwest US now provides these insights and in our new article we provide a snapshot of recent train lengths seen on UP and BNSF. Learn more about long trains traveling on the US network and this powerful new tool for policy-makers and researchers. https://lnkd.in/dRfvBJ3U #longtrains #freightrail #intermodal #supplychain

LSM TrainSense® and LSM BridgeSense® (both Int. pat. pend.) offer a cost-effective solution. Priced under $100 per in-cabin device per vehicle, these systems require no extra infrastructure or ongoing maintenance / support, and are easy to implement, with the low costs recoverable through vehicle registration. This CAAS mitigation technology can save lives, prevent injuries, and reduce taxpayer expenditure by $millions or even $billions compared to more expensive, less effective systems. LSM TrainSense® and LSM BridgeSense® can integrate or augment with existing tech, minimise human error, behavioural issues, and environmental factors. They provide audible and visual alerts inside the driver’s cabin and can trigger deceleration, braking, or automatic emergency braking (AEB) if warnings are ignored.
