Trihill Capital goes to Surabaya!
Last week, we had the pleasure of partnering with Aspire to host a member gathering for APKRINDO (Asosiasi Pengusaha Kafe dan Restoran Indonesia).
We engaged with a group of enthusiastic cafe and restaurant owners in Surabaya, eager to learn about venture funding opportunities and explore strategies to streamline their financial operations for enhanced transparency and scalability.
We look forward to continuing to support the growth of the F&B industry in Surabaya and beyond. Thank you to APKRINDO and Aspire for making this event possible.

Warung owners in rural Indonesia typically travel long distances 2-3 times a week to purchase goods, an arduous journey through rough and winding roads. This leads to thin profit margins, higher prices for consumers, and limited stock availability.
500-backed social commerce platform Dagangan is helping them digitalize their business, secure cheaper prices for their goods, and even bring in brands that cover the cost of promotions to consumers. Brands include Unilever, Coca-Cola, Ajinomoto, Frisian Flag, Ultrajaya, Garuda Food, and more.
Co-founder & CEO Ryan Manafe shared that almost all of Dagangan’s hub operations have achieved positive EBITDA, and the company will have a clear path to net profitability by the end of 2024.

We are excited to welcome Faster Than Light (FTL Gym), an Indonesian-based gym operator, into our portfolio. The class-focus gym chain has raised US$ 3–5 million in venture debt round from OCBC Ventura.
FTL, led by CEO and Founder Erik W.S, has been revolutionizing the fitness industry in Indonesia since 2020 by providing mega-gym facilities outside mall premises. With this funding, FTL plans to expand its footprint, adding 30 new gyms this year in Greater Jakarta, and reaching new areas like Bandung, Surabaya, and Bali. Currently FTL operates 20 outlets around Greater Jakarta accessible 24 hours.
Darryl Ratulangi, Managing Director of OCBC Ventura, stated, “The growing health consciousness and expanding middle-income demographic in Indonesia motivated our investment in FTL. We are excited about the potential in this consumer healthcare space.”
With Indonesia’s fitness participation rate currently sits at 1% of the population, compared to Southeast Asia’s average of 2.4%, there is immense room for growth. FTL is poised to lead this transformation, bringing comprehensive fitness solutions to more people across the country.
Stay tuned for more updates on FTL’s journey and our continued efforts to back innovative entrepreneurs in the consumer, retail, and healthcare sectors. 🚀

Djarum Group, one of Indonesia’s top conglomerates, has "allegedly" acquired Bakmi GM, the legendary noodle chain we all grew up loving, in a deal worth IDR 2.1 trillion (USD 132.6 million)! 🍜💰
With this acquisition, Djarum Group signals a bold move into the culinary space, adding Bakmi GM to its impressive portfolio of ventures. Sounds like Djarum is taking on a different strategy going forward?
As for Bakmi GM, it has been a household name since 1959, and I have a lot of memories of their location at Melawai in Blok M from back in the mid-1980's and then their PIM 1 location in 1990.
🔥 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗸?
Will Bakmi GM stay true to its roots or will Djarum Group make some changes?
What Bakmi GM location do you frequent and what's your favorite menu item?

Just concluded a 5-day visit to Indonesia, encompassing meetings with partners in Jakarta and Bandung. The customary traffic congestion on the Jakarta-Bandung road trip made me realize that I should have opted for the new high-speed train instead (photo credit: Xinhua). Bandung's cool climate offered a welcome contrast to the hustle and bustle of Jakarta, and the culinary experience was a reminder of the delicious flavors I missed during my time abroad.
Back to business - the discussions with various SMEs and startups revealed a prevailing optimism regarding Indonesia's economic future and perceived advantages amid current geopolitical shifts. As an Indonesian national, this collective optimism serves as both a source of pride and motivation to contribute meaningfully to the nation's economic development.
Moving forward, the focus remains on harnessing this momentum to drive sustainable growth and prosperity for all stakeholders involved. 🚀 🚀 🚀

Another publication on Warung with Robert DavisonSafirotu KhoirRahma Fauzia
To me, warung represents a part of the society facing a serious problem in the era of Digital Transformation. The owner tends to be less technologically savvy, and they rely on traditional ways of managing their business.
Yet, in many parts of Indonesia, it remains the only way for the people to get their daily needs.
Yes, there have been many startups that aim to include warung in their digital ecosystems. But what is the lived experience of the Warung owner-managers?
In this paper, we explore three Warungs that must digitally transform some of their operations. We find that the success of a digital transformation initiative depends on the owner-managers having both a growth and a technology mindset while observing that the availability of support from friends and relatives can be crucial to success.

Reflecting on Tjangkir Rempah's Journey, it's incredible to reminisce about our booth at INACRAFT 2023. A year has passed since our venture to Jakarta, yet the memories of both joy and struggle remain vivid. Our journey began during my second semester at Ciputra University, where I pursued International Business Management. Launching a business may seem simple, but the real challenge lies in maintaining consistency.
As CEO, my vision extends beyond mere profit-making; I aspire to create businesses that leave a positive impact on both customers and the environment. Despite facing numerous hurdles, we persevered. Initially, selling traditional Indonesian drinks, known as "jamu," posed a significant challenge as our peers weren't our target market. However, through meticulous customer segmentation, we identified our niche.
Our breakthrough came when we started selling at the Car Free Day (CFD) event every Sunday. Waking up at 4 am to prepare and pack our products became a ritual. Eventually, an opportunity arose to join the Surabaya Sehat health community, where we established a regular booth once a month. This marked a turning point as we began attracting genuine customers, evident from the testimonials featured on our Instagram page (@tjangkir.rempah).
These heartfelt feedbacks fuel our determination to persevere. I owe a debt of gratitude to our dedicated team: COO Marvelia Zefanya, CFO Frances Tuesday, and CMO Angelina Leony. They aren't just business partners; they're family.
