As summer vacations ended, I felt uncertain about making the most of my time. 20+ days of back-to-back interviews for internships left me feeling disheartened. But I refused to give up! A turning point came when I interviewed with Unstop , which didn't go as expected. But I didn't let it deter me. I booked a train to Delhi, attended walk-ins, and got selected at an ed-tech company! Here’s a surprising truth about pre-placement offers. I am sure most of you are not aware of this. I interned in 2022 and received a PPO. Like all of us, I was also thinking about the pre-placement offer before and after my internship. This week, while interacting with current interns, I reflected on my experience and gained new insights. A PPO is an input metric, not an output. It's a subset of several key factors: → Cultural fit within the organization → Your skills and vision for the future → Your work performance and contributions → Affiliation with specific colleges, societies, or clubs → Department and organization headcount requirements However, beyond your work, you can't influence the other inputs. So, if you can do the following things in the upcoming 2/3 weeks, then, In my opinion, you have completed your training well. Focus on these actionable steps in the coming weeks: → Understand the department and organizational culture → Communicate your goals to your manager and mentor → Learn about the company's processes and work → Share your findings and insights from your work → Step out of your comfort zone and network Internships are often seen solely as a means to employment. However, they also provide valuable learning and hands-on training. While PPOs are important, they're an output, not an input.
