This is a perfect example of why "nothing about us, without us" is such an important guiding principle for brands today. You have one Black person - assuming a psychologically safe environment - in any of the decision-making rooms at Youthforia and this mistake is avoided. Guaranteed. Sometimes, it just has to be done, as mainstream, will shy away from global majority excellence. Yes, they are truly exceptional. Yet, there are so many more. My intention is to celebrate goodness and greatness, for too long it has been hidden. My passion is to make the invisible visible, to give the voiceless an opportunity to speak. Many will attempt to thwart the mission. Nevertheless, in The Most High protection, what will be, will be. Be informed that world history includes black history. Be reminded that we are ALL made in The Most High's image. Be encouraged that unity, CommUNITY, is the key. So ask yourself the question, are you part of the solution, to challenge the narrative, to be an ally of and for justice. Or are you indifferent, as it is not your problem to assist, as it does not impact you, as to how HIStory is disseminated? I say all of the above, to share that Real EDI requires uncomfortable conversations in order to constructively work towards a change in the status quo. So again are you part of the solution or not, if not, why not, let your conscious be your guide... Over to you, let me know what is real EDI? #wearegreat #nolimits #genius #allyship #community #justice #beyond #statusquo #Equality https://lnkd.in/eEsPXfzC

“If Trayvon Martin wasn’t wearing a hoodie he wouldn’t have been shot.” I’m embarrassed that I used to think that way. But.. did I really think that way or was I protecting my identity as “one of the good ones,” growing up in spaces where I was often the only one? A lot of the internalized racism I experienced while growing up fuels my activism today. It’s also a significant reason why I advocate for community upward mobility over individual black success stories, which often involve being “the first” in spaces that have made it clear they weren’t interested in our presence. This is not to discredit the necessary sacrifices many have made to give people like me opportunities and the belief that we can be more than what we see. Where would we be without such bravery? Still I wonder, how much longer will we be encouraged to strive for acceptance from those with more resources rather than using what we have now in 2024 to become the producers and create standards that fit our uniqueness? Did I need to grow up hating the essence of my existence, and the general black experience in order to be successful? Do we really have to change everything about ourselves from our hair to our dialect (beautifully connected to our original home), in order to progress in this world? What about the gifts and ideas we have that are being suppressed due to the confidence that is consequently stripped from us as we strip ourselves of our authenticity? God makes no mistakes, and I’m thankful for every part of my life. There have been gems in every season. I needed to grow up idolizing the model minority experience to learn that I actually don’t have to play that role to be enough. Now I believe black children should grow up and let their knowledge and gifts be what fuels them to restore their communities rather than buying them a ticket into luxurious oblivion that even I once strived for (and on a bad day I still do😅). Then, as a collective, we could have enough brainpower and resources to solve our own problems, rather than having the same round table discussions every generation. That would be a true sign of progress for our communities. That’s what I advocate for as an activist. You can hear more of my journey in this YouTube video😌🙏

Let's Talk About Target Audiences & Racism As professionals, it's essential to understand that identifying a target audience does not equate to racism. Miss Chantal J, an Afrocentric jewelry curator, is facing backlash for catering to her community. Let's clarify: celebrating one's culture and having a target audience is not discriminatory. Racism is about denying opportunities and perpetuating harm based on race. Let's educate ourselves and others on the difference. Supporting Black excellence, Afrocentric expression, and inclusivity is crucial. Let's promote respect and understanding in our industries and beyond! #TargetAudience #Racism #Education #Inclusion #BlackExcellence #AfrocentricPride"

How can we stay safe online? Especially when it comes to racism… I recently decided to share my experience with racism as a Black Woman on TikTok. It was a moment of vulnerability. I wanted to shed light on an issue that often goes unspoken, hoping to spark conversations and inspire change. 👐🏾 The response was overwhelming, but not all in the way I had hoped. Among the flood of comments were trolls, with a wave of hate and ignorance. But there were also reassuring comments and messages of support, reminding me why I shared my story in the first place. Remember: 🙋🏽♀️🙋🏼♂️ We all come from different values and belief systems, but that doesn’t mean we can’t respectfully discuss things. 🗣️💬 Conversations online can quickly spiral into chaos, but as the authors of our own stories, we can choose to let discussions evolve constructively or shut down negativity. It was a reminder that while I may not control the trolls, I do control my narrative. And my voice will continue to speak out against injustice, no matter the obstacles thrown my way. You have the power 💪🏾💛 #Racism #RacismStillExists #Awareness
