Yesterday's Telford Sustainability Solutions Summit run at Telford College by Telford & Wrekin Council and Claire Critchell of Invest Telford brought together Telford businesses looking for sustainability solutions and businesses providing those solutions. Great idea! Great conference! As a solution provider the Big Solar Co-op's pitch was: 'We put solar on big rooftops (250m2 or bigger) with high electricity usage (£12,000 or more annual spend on electricity). We install free of charge to the building user/owner and sell the electricity to the building user at up to 50% below the rate they can get from the grid. We maintain and clean the panels throughout the life of the system and the building user/owner can buy us out any time after 5 years at depreciated cost. We're a carbon-first not-for-profit, so it's not about making pots of money but is about getting solar on rooftops. What's not to like?' Yes, we do need a lot more electricity generation (and storage) in NZ, but with our landfills filling fast and a construction industry that is responsible for over 40% of that waste to landfill, we must do it in a sustainable manner. Sunergy Solar are leading by example, being the only Toitū Envirocare EnviroMark Gold certified solar installer in NZ. What does this actually mean though? It means we practice what we preach. It's easy to say you care about the environment, it's difficult to prove it. At Sunergy, we believe actions speak louder than words.
