Quick announcement: I’ve decided to shut 1000Zebras down to spend a little more time on Linkedin. Just kidding, well kind of. It’s true, we will be closing the doors on 1000Zebras, but it’s so that I can focus on other business interests that are gaining momentum, notably the Urban Farming Initiative and Exit Lab. First, before I get into the details, I want to thank 1000Zebras’ co-founders Jake Boyles, Ann Boger, and Mariana Padilla for the time, effort, and creativity they put into the business. I’d also like to thank all of the service providers, freelancers, and partners who joined the platform and created their own marketplaces - we appreciated your interest, feedback, and support. We started 1000Zebras with a vision to create a credit union, and in true entrepreneurial fashion, it ended pretty far from our starting point. The marketplace platform we built was functional, but not strong enough to sustain the numbers required for VC funding. This became pretty clear earlier in the year, so I’ve spent the past couple of months building out two other businesses that are exciting and promising. The Urban Farming Initiative actually started several years ago during the pandemic with an ambitious question, “How can we turn vacant commercial properties into thriving food hubs and urban farms?” Four years later, we’ve landed on a “farming as a service” business model where we build, install, and program manage container farms at schools, universities, hospitals, real estate complexes, and more. We’re launching our prototype this fall in Cincinnati so you’ll be hearing a lot more about this. I also started a company in March called Exit Lab after noticing some structural brokenness in the medical device and healthcare innovation space. We’re building an active network of startups, commercialization experts, buyers and procurement professionals, funders, corporate R&D and M&A groups, ecosystem builders, and others involved in the healthcare innovation supply chain. By bringing them together through in-person events and a digital platform, they can hear and interact with each other directly, which truncates the time it takes for inventors of great tech to get through the hurdles and challenges they face as early-stage healthcare and medical device businesses. Exit Lab was largely informed by client work I have been doing in the space for the past year. As such, I am also taking on a small number of clients as a Fractional COO or CFO, depending on the need. Both of these businesses are looking to take on ETA or Entrepreneurship Through Acquisition deals to speed up our cashflows and provide a base of financial support. 🚀 Reflecting on VDS... One year ago, we launched the first version of what is now known as Critical Match—a platform crafted by and for the tabletop community. Thanks to the unwavering support of the Centro Europeo de Empresas e Innovación de Navarra, we embarked on a journey to find investors who could help us take Critical Match to the next level. And guess what? 🎯 We’ve achieved our goal! We're coming back with over 5 connections with VCs and BA groups who, after seeing our pitch, want to dive deeper into the project. But that’s not even the most exciting part (yes, I know... having 5 big companies that manage millions interested in our project is incredibly thrilling 🤯). What made the experience even better was the community—meeting people from other industries, corporate leaders, and fellow entrepreneurs who approached us just to learn about what we do. Many of them are also passionate fans of the Tabletop world! We’re returning with renewed enthusiasm to keep building something as exciting as Critical Match, and honestly, our spirits are sky-high! 🌌 Our next challenges? Meetings with the investors,along with upcoming CEIN events where we’ll get to showcase Critical Match to investors even more—this time, at our home. 🌍

Our F.B.L.A. (Future Business Leaders of America) Club welcomed David Alexander, CEO of Soliant, to speak to students interested in learning more about business and entrepreneurship from a Christian business leader. David and his father founded Soliant in 1992 right here in Atlanta, GA. Soliant serves school systems and hospitals by providing specialized clinicians to deliver care and therapy to students and patients. Soliant operates six offices, employs more than 15,000 people, and generates just over one billion dollars in revenue annually. Key takeaways: 1. You have to work smarter AND harder. 2. Be "bulletproof" dependable. 3. If you want to achieve great things, you must eliminate the option to quit.

Great talk by the legendary Paul Graham about the early stages of growing a startup. Sometimes we have to do things that don't scale, things that can be tedious and slow going.
