Car production falls as OEMs prepare for EV models UK car production fell by nearly 8% in the first 6 months of 2024, although the figures were expected as manufacturers retool for electrified models. The new figures, published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT), found factories turned out 416,074 units, 34,094 fewer than in the same period in 2023, following a 26.6% decline in June caused by multiple model changes. But performance was expected as manufacturers retool lines to make electrified models, following some £23.7 billion of UK investment announced last year. A thorough examination may shed light on why EV sales are lagging compared to other countries. Conventional and in-expensive gasoline cars, particularly 999cc 3-cylinder vehicles achieving up to 50 mpg and even up to 60 mpg (diesel), remain prevalent and popular among many consumers. Additionally, an extensive rail network and widespread use of electric city buses contribute to the diverse transportation landscape capable of meeting the daily commuting needs of many. In Canada, the government has already invested over $1 billion in EV initiatives, yet EV registrations remain disappointingly low, especially when considering the absence of fuel-efficient ICE cars, a souring public transportation system burdened with monumental operating costs & levels of bureaucracy and of course a near extinct rail network!

UK car manufacturing output fell by 15.3 per cent in October, the eighth consecutive month of decline, according to the latest figures published by the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT). The findings state that 77,484 car units left factory gates – 14,037 fewer than in the same month last year – with plants continuing their retooling to enable production of the next generation of zero emission vehicles. 24,719 battery electric, plug-in hybrid and hybrid electric cars were made, representing almost a third (31.9 per cent) of output, despite a volume decline of -32.6 per cent. Since January, UK car makers have now turned out a combined 239,773 electrified vehicles, with 71.8 per cent of them exported to global markets. October brings our latest Electric Vehicle Sales Review for Q3 2024. Together with Felix Kuhnert and Steven Van Arsdale, we have identified key takeaways: #Emobility is now suitable for the masses. China and the US are leading with effective strategies, like government subsidies and attractive leasing models. In Europe, upcoming EU legislation changes will increase the CO2 value of PHEVs, potentially making them obsolete. To stay competitive, Germany can learn from the US. State-subsidized leasing models not only attract price-sensitive buyers but also ensure market electrification as vehicles enter the used market post-leasing. With improved battery technology and warranties, OEMs must highlight BEV capabilities. “The global auto industry manufactured 10.5mn electric vehicles last year — and expects to produce 13.5mn this year, according to data pooled from suppliers and forecasters by one auto investor. In 2025, on current projections, output will rise even further to 18mn — a 70 per cent increase in global EV output in just two years, the forecasts show. Yet sales, the same data set predicts, will lag even further behind. EV interest last year resulted in sales of 9.5mn vehicles, but the figure is only expected to be 9.8mn this year.” #manufacturing #EVOEMs #EVinfrastructure #regionsrecruiting

Used electric vehicle prices in the US are stabilizing in H1 2024, creating opportunities for buyers and dealers. Recurrent Auto's report reveals a surge in affordable EVs under $30,000, now representing 60% of the market. This trend is supported by government tax credits and growing inventory. Consequently, the used EV market is gaining traction, with prices leveling off, particularly in the $20,000 to $25,000 range. Experts predict more predictable pricing in Q3 2024, while older models may continue to decline in value. The increasing popularity of new EV leases is expected to boost the used market significantly by 2026. https://lnkd.in/geUTQ-ZJ #ElectricVehicles #EVMarket #UsedEVs #RecurrentAuto #TeslaModel3 #TeslaModelY #ChevyBolt #NissanLeaf #FordMustangMachE #VWID4 #EVPricing #GreenTransportation #Sustainability #AutoIndustry #EVAdoption #CleanEnergy #USAMarket #EVTaxCredit
