Caregivers are the fastest-growing employee group, yet many employers underestimate the weight of their caregiving responsibilities due to a lack of effective measurement. Big Chalk 's workforce survey reveals that 62% of employees juggle work and caregiving, with 44% being parents. This group is essential to the workforce, but there is an estimated 5.5 million-person gap between the flexible work arrangements they seek and what employers provide. Flexibility is more than a benefit – it’s a necessity. 👋 When an employee asked to work from home permanently, I told him, “As long as the work gets done, I don’t care where you do it. I trust you to deliver.” That employee saved 3 hours on commuting, leading to greater productivity. This experience taught me that focusing on results, not presence, is what truly matters. If you can’t trust your employees, why hire them? Trust is key. #HR #Employees #RemoteWork #Trust #Culture #Productivity

The “One-Size-Fits-All” Approach in HR Accommodations Hurts Employees by When it comes to accommodations in the workplace, no two employees are the same. Yet, many organizations still operate under a “one-size-fits-all” policy, especially for remote work, modified schedules, and accessibility adjustments. This approach overlooks the unique needs of individuals and can lead to exclusion, frustration, and burnout for employees who require personalized solutions to thrive. ✅ Why does this matter? Disability and health challenges don’t follow a set policy—they require flexibility and understanding. When employers fail to go beyond standard policies, it can prevent employees from performing at their best, and even worse, can alienate those who need accommodations to succeed in their roles. 💡 What can we do instead? HR and leadership should engage in meaningful conversations with employees to understand their specific needs. Accommodations should be tailored, whether that’s adjusting work hours, providing necessary equipment, or allowing for more remote work flexibility. By doing so, we create an inclusive environment where EVERYONE can contribute and succeed. Let’s prioritize equity over uniformity. Accommodations are not about special treatment—they are about leveling the playing field. #DiversityAndInclusion #HR #Equity #WorkplaceInclusion #DisabilityRights #InclusiveWorkplace #Leadership #HumanResources #AccommodationMatters

Could the 4-day working week revolutionise local government? 📆 The new Labour government has dropped opposition to a local council's introduction of the 4-day working week, sparking a lively debate and potentially paving the way for other local authorities 🛣️ After a trial period, where workers carried out 100% of their work in 80% of contracted hours, for 100% of their pay, the council reported improvements in many of their services and overall productivity; as well as recruitment and retention, health and wellbeing 📈 However, not everyone is convinced 🔥 Formal concerns were issued regarding the delivery of public services, response times and availability ❗ Is this a forward-thinking step towards modernising public sector work, or a risky move that could impact vital community services? The debate continues - WFO v/s WFH WFH gives me the following 4. 1. Higher productivity • Deep-focused work happens at home. 2. Less commute • Saves over 3 hours daily. • More energy for actual work. 3. Better health and family time • Work-around life, not life around work. • Mental health thrives with flexibility. 4. Think beyond the home office: • Wear whatever makes you feel comfortable Your best employees aren't leaving the office, they're leaving outdated thinking #recruitment #humanresource #HR #workfromhomeopportunities #staffing #WFH

With increased demand for flexible work, this employee perk is fast becoming ‘non-negotiable’ for potential jobseekers. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS), hybrid workers save nearly an hour (56 minutes) on average on the days they work from home. The research revealed that much of this time is spent on rest, exercise and wellbeing. This included 24 extra minutes on average for ‘sleep and rest’ and an additional 15 minutes for ‘exercise, sports and wellbeing’ compared to those who travelled to another location for work. If you're struggling to recruit, make sure that you are offering flexible work options in advert and job descriptions. #flexiblework #hybridwork #jobadvert #jobdescription #recruiting #wellbeing #employeeperk
