You’ve finished writing your book… now what? It’s time to navigate the publishing world, and we’re here to help. Based on a recent poll we conducted, here’s what writers like you are considering: 🔹 Traditional Publishing: Think of it like working with a dream team. You get a full-service experience with editors, designers, and marketers, but landing a deal can be tough. Only 17% of our respondents prioritized the speed of getting to market, which is often slower in traditional publishing. 🔹 Self-Publishing: You’re in control! You call the shots and keep more royalties, but you’ll handle everything from editing to marketing. Interestingly, 50% of respondents value the potential for creative control with this option, and 33% are attracted by the higher royalties. 🔹 Hybrid Publishing: The best of both worlds! You get professional support while keeping some creative control. It’s a great option if you want some guidance without giving up too much control. Choosing the right path can be daunting, but there’s no right or wrong choice—just what works best for you and your book. Need more guidance? Follow us for tips and support on your writing journey! —————————————————————- #WritingTips #Publishing #Authors #BookPublishing #amediting

Traditional vs. Self-Publishing 📚 This is the final week of our "Self Discovery through Writing" series. We've come a long way, and this week we're going to discuss publishing and beyond! Deciding between traditional and self-publishing depends on your personal goals, resources, and the level of control you wish to maintain over your writing project. 1️⃣ Traditional Publishing 🔼 Pros: 🔼 ➡️ Professional Support: Access to a team of experts (editors, designers, marketers) to polish and promote your book. ➡️ Market Access: Greater likelihood of visibility in bookstores and access to mainstream media outlets and literary awards. ➡️ Legitimacy: Often viewed as a stamp of approval or legitimacy in the literary world. 🔽 Cons: 🔽 ➡️ Gatekeepers: The submission and selection process can be lengthy and challenging, with many layers of gatekeeping. ➡️ Creative Control: Publishers often have a say in editing, book cover design, and other creative decisions. ➡️ Royalties: Typically, lower royalties per book sold compared to self-publishing. 2️⃣ Self-Publishing 🔼 Pros: 🔼 ➡️ Complete Creative Control: Freedom over every aspect of the book, from writing to marketing. ➡️ Higher Royalties: Potential for higher earnings per book, as middlemen are cut out of the process. ➡️ Speed to Market: The ability to publish your book as soon as it’s ready, without waiting on publishing house timelines. 🔽 Cons: 🔽 ➡️ Upfront Costs: Responsibility for editing, design, and marketing costs falls on you. ➡️ Distribution Challenges: More effort is required to get your book into bookstores and libraries. ➡️ Marketing Responsibilities: The burden of promotion and visibility relies entirely on the author. 👇Share your publishing experiences or aspirations. If you've already published, what lessons did you learn? If you're deciding, what factors are weighing most heavily on your mind? 📷 Photo by Viktor Talashuk: https://lnkd.in/gmHy8beM #SelfDiscovery #PublishingPaths #TraditionalVsSelfPublishing

Writing and publishing a book is a major milestone for any author, but common mistakes can get in the way of and author's success. Even the best authors are human and, like all of us, they make mistakes. While the Troubador Publishing team helps guide hundreds of authors a year around these pitfalls, not everyone has a dedicated team to navigate each step for them. So, I’ve written an article highlighting some of the most common mistakes the team sees authors make... and how to sidestep them. Here’s a few of them: 1️⃣ Rushing the Publishing Process Many new authors feel pressured to publish as quickly as possible, fearing that delays might mean losing momentum or audience interest. However, rushing the process often leads to skipping essential steps, creating avoidable stress and affecting quality. 2️⃣ Overlooking Distribution How will your readers find your book? If you don’t have an immediate answer, it might mean your book risks getting lost among the millions of others that get published each year. A clear distribution plan is crucial to making your book accessible and visible to the book trade and readers. 3️⃣ Overlooking Marketing Many new authors make the mistake of assuming that once their book is written, readers will naturally find it. This "If I write it, they will come" mentality often leads to missed opportunities. Being proactive and open-minded is key. In the article, I explore these and 7 more of the most common mistakes we see, offering practical tips for self-published authors on how to avoid them along the way. And remember... the Troubador team and I are here to answer any questions you may have. https://lnkd.in/gQNdaNs5 #Authors #Publishing #BookMarketing #WritingTips #IndieAuthors #AuthorLife #WritingCommunity #SelfPublishing #BookPublishing #BookPromotion #BookPromo

Anna has such a wealth of knowledge to share. Can thoroughly recommend this.
Just in case anybody has clients/contacts who would find this useful – or would find it useful themselves: I am running an online introduction to self-publishing on Saturday 2nd November (2pm GMT). It's a new course, just half a day, and will give an entry-level overview of what self-publishing involves, from ISBNs to editing to defining success! Writers should come away knowing whether the indie route is right for them and what next steps to take if it is. It will hopefully answer a lot of the questions that regularly come up on the advice forums and save people time & frustration. It’s also a great way to gain a broader understanding of the publishing industry and how to reach readers. The course is hosted by Get Into Book Publishing.
