Hey everyone, a huge round of applause for all you fantastic learners out there! Who cares about points anyway? The real win is the knowledge you gained and how much you've grown this year. That's what education should be all about, right? Not some cutthroat competition to see who gets the highest score. Let's be honest, those old-school practices of showing everyone's averages, ranking us against each other, and only giving out gold stars to the top students? Totally outdated. It's time to shake things up! Shouldn't education be about building a community where we learn from and support each other? Like, shouldn't we be sharpening our problem-solving skills for the crazy world we're gonna inherit, not just memorizing facts for a test? I know some folks might think I'm just a dreamer, but I call it preparing for the future! Teachers, let's reimagine how we learn! Let's ditch the competition, focus on teamwork, and become responsible global citizens. Now, that's what I call an education worth bragging about!

There’s great energy in simple conversations. Had a great time with Masters' Union 5th cohort. Loved the energy and fresh perspectives. Key lessons 1. The world is getting more complex and finding simplicity in complex things get you closer to solution 2. You don’t need to solve for everything all alone, but you need to take the ownership and keep striving 3. It’s crucial to find your own control button. You can’t have everything but knowing what brings you joy is very important 4. Compassion, Courage, Curiosity, and Creativity are core human skills. Learn to apply these in all situations #unlockpotential #peakperformance #mastersunion #journeybegins

If you came to the UIS as an adult, what 1 thing surprised you the most about life here? It might be something specific about how people interact, the variety of foods in a supermarket, our weather, or something else. i am preparing to teach a webinar on American culture for newcomers, and am curious abo and have space to add a few more things If I choose your idea, I will send you a copy of the slides. Thanks! Katie Schwartz

✨ I had the amazing opportunity to join a team-building event with the Education team from EIT InnoEnergy and attend a two-day workshop with David Young, a psychologist who works with high-performing. I can’t even begin to describe how insightful and fun this workshop was! I took so many notes because not only was the session incredibly engaging, but it also had a deep theoretical side (which made me think, "Wow, I’d totally study psychology in another life!" 😅). Here’s a quick recap: ⤷ 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟏 focused on 𝐬𝐞𝐥𝐟-𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬, where David shared two frameworks he uses to profile team members' performance preferences. ⤷ 𝐃𝐚𝐲 𝟐 dove into 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 𝐝𝐲𝐧𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐜𝐬, helping us define our purpose and guiding principles. Before the workshop, we took a test using the 𝐒𝐩𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭 𝐭𝐨𝐨𝐥 to understand our mindset and behavioural preferences (my lead performance preference is Expressively Engaged btw). What I loved about David’s approach is how he emphasized that the tool isn’t about boxing people in but about highlighting our strengths and helping us work with them. P.S. If you’re curious to know more, or if you’ve ever thought you’d love to study psychology in another life, drop a comment! I'd be happy to share all the resources (I’m not kidding when I say I have pages of notes with references ahahahah).

Anyone else ending this week thinking about goals? Not in an overwhelming way but in a curious and excited way. What goals are you working towards? What goals are you considering adding or removing for that matter because they no longer align, which is equally important? About to fly home and close out a two-part goal focused series for students in a program at the University of Chicago that’s focused on helping equip students with the tools they need to thrive. Goal setting is certainly one of those tools and beyond setting is the “getting” and to me that’s focused on the how and the who can support you and also understanding it does not come without trials, setbacks and resets. Excited to close out the week focused on practical tips and positive self-talk that can help these students Get Up & Thrive. Thanks to Necol Raymond, M.Ed. for kicking off part 1 of the series in October-always great collaborating with you. (Fun fact Necol and I were Dramatic Duet Acting partners on our speech team in High Scool) #theaterkids Are goals a priority for you? Want to collaborate on “setting & getting?” Schedule a “collaboration conversation” https://lnkd.in/gJjE9fV2 #morein2024 #goals #speaker #personaldevelopment #professionaldevelopment
