Last week Dalriada Trustees, Managing Director, Chris Roberts was quoted in a Pensions Expert article 'Addressing diversity in pension trusteeship'.   The recent Trustee Diversity and Inclusion survey by the The Pensions Regulator (TPR) has shed light on the lack of diversity within pension trustee boards, primarily dominated by white men over 45. However, the survey also revealed a strong acknowledgment among trustees of the importance of diversity for effective decision-making, governance, and member outcomes.   Chris stated “We have broadened our geographic base to span the whole UK to give access to wider and more diverse recruitment pools and we have consciously not set minimum educational standards to avoid unnecessary barriers to neurodiverse colleagues. We are currently looking at options to create entry-level academy/graduate roles to allow new entrants to the sector, broadening the talent pool. I mean, who wants to think about retirement when we're just starting out, right? But hear me out, because I've had a change of heart, and it's time to challenge that notion. 𝐌𝐲 𝐏𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐄𝐱𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞: Like many of you, I used to roll my eyes at the mention of pensions and the idea that a part of my hard-earned salary disappearing into some distant savings account felt frustrating. It seemed like a relic of the past, something reserved for our grandparents – definitely not for a tech-savvy, gig-working #GenZer eager to spend my first paycheck when I started my apprenticeship. But you know what? I've come to realize that dismissing pensions as "lame" is a mistake. 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞'𝐬 𝐰𝐡𝐲 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐢𝐭'𝐬 𝐰𝐨𝐫𝐭𝐡 𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐡𝐢𝐧𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬: 1️⃣ 𝐅𝐢𝐧𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐥 𝐅𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧: While pensions may not be as attention grabbing as What are the new features of the latest iPhone, they provide a reliable financial foundation for my future. Investing a portion of my salary and reinvesting the earnings instead of spending them elsewhere since I was 19 has proven to be a wise decision. It's not about sacrificing present enjoyment; rather, it's about laying the groundwork for our future. 2️⃣ 𝐏𝐞𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐌𝐢𝐧𝐝: Pensions go beyond retirement planning; they provide the reassurance needed to pursue our passions without financial stress.
