WBP's #1 Ranked Post of the Year! Obsessed Much? Ewww. Micromanagement is such an intense and intrusive bullying tactic that needs to stop. Pronto. It's a classic method used by imposters leaders when they are turbo-boosted into desperate control and dominance measures because they feel acutely threatened. Hahaha - yup, they are threatened by the mere *idea* of you doing a good job on an assigned project. They must thwart your success at all costs and it all starts with micromanagement. What an absolutely psychotic thought process. None of it makes sense - but remember, you're not an emotionally unwell bully. The irony is that you were hired because you were deemed skilled, talented and competent for the role...so, why aren't they letting you run with the task, project, assignment...why? You know the answer. Insecurity breeds bullying. But the damage that is done when you are micromanaged is immense. It is soul-shattering. Demeaning. Suffocating. Stressful. It leads to high blood pressure. Self-doubt. Self-esteem issues. Hypervigilance. Mistakes. Confusion. Emotional overload. Decreased productivity. Micromanagement is the killer of all things positive. If a leader wants to absolutely demolish a person's enthusiasm, engagement in the team and willingness to do ANYTHING. Micromanagement is a shut-down mechanism. I can think of fewer methods to absolutely destroy a person's confidence. To all imposter leaders who do this: STOP IT. STOP IT NOW. Micromanagement is a form of psychological abuse and you are ABUSING your team when you use this method. Focus on abundance. Nobody is perfect and team members may need support to upskill if there are quality issues....this quite literally is where your skills as a leader are to be used. This is when you should be able to shine! Find positive ways to implement training, coaching and mentoring to lead the way to success. Micromanagement is scarcity-based, fear-based and used to control and dominate a person who wants to do their best. I will say it again - STOP IT.
