The Marana Municipal Complex is now officially the “Ed Honea Marana Municipal Complex” in recognition of Mayor Honea’s lifetime of dedicated service to the Town.
"He lived and breathed Marana. He loved Marana, and he literally gave his life to the town...You couldn’t have picked someone better than Ed Honea to be the Mayor of Marana and to get us to this point," said Interim Mayor Jon Post.
Well done Marana. This man's Legacy is the reason Marana is the best community to live in, in the state of Arizona. If ADOT ever upgrades the Marana Exit off ramp and bridge, it should be named the "Ed Honea Memorial Overpass" or interchage. A tribute to a great man.

Since becoming The Confluence Historic Site & Parkland almost six months ago, we’ve heard a lot of different feedback. Amid overwhelming support for the space our new name creates for Indigenous perspectives on the history here, we’re also aware of some fear and discomfort around our name change. I recently met with a group of community members who feel strongly that the name Fort Calgary should remain for this site. Their concerns mainly stem from a perception that the name change will serve to erase Fort Calgary’s history and the legacy of the North-West Mounted Police (NWMP).
I continuously reflect on the logic and irony of this position. We’re more committed than ever to understanding and sharing credible information about Fort Calgary and the impacts of its presence on this land. Our staff historian is examining historical records through a critical lens. We are learning more about, among other things, how the NWMP jailed women for “lunacy” at Fort Calgary, and how officers here aided in the return of runaway children to residential schools. How can we have truthful conversations about this history under a banner that serves to glorify the NWMP, the systems they upheld and the harm they caused?
I am responsible for stewarding this public land, and I am dedicated to our organization’s contribution to becoming an anti-racist city, as outlined in the City of Calgary Anti-Racist Strategic Plan. As the leader of a cultural institution and nationally designated historic site in Canada, I am committed to meeting the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s Calls to Action. This is our path, and these commitments are integral to our organization’s journey.
Unfortunately, our direction is difficult for some to accept. People question why we can’t just go back to the way things were. Why not continue delivering the same story? I acknowledge everyone is on their own journey—that some don’t yet know or believe the truth that must come before reconciliation. Conversations about this subject can be incredibly challenging. Although we try to meet people where they are, we can’t go backwards. Community members and visitors who support The Confluence’s journey have shared they are not interested in upholding a version of the past that only frames a fraction of the picture, and nor am I, as uncomfortable as that might feel.

CCC Long Term Plan hearings... think I nailed it with "rivers of shit".
____________________________________
Good afternoon.
I’ve been reading through the submissions on today’s agenda and have seen others live over the week. I wonder, like me, if you find it incredibly inspiring and comforting – and possibly challenging - that there are so many dedicated people who care deeply about this city.
In my first submission – in my role as Board Chair of Te Huarahi Linwood Ave School – I ask you to consider the safety of our children and how best to invest in their futures.
For our community, this means supporting kids and families to get to school safely and cheaply; providing active transport options; providing amenities; reducing our dependency on fossil fuels; and most importantly LONG TERM thinking - so that no child is left behind.
Specifically, please deliver all the CRAF & CERF projects that have been cut.
In my personal submission, I had to ask myself why bother to submit, why am I here?
I have two consuming passions - community and construction. I started out as a civil engineer 30 years ago and have been in construction ever since. I love it! It is all about building the best future for as many people as possible.
To that end, I want to highlight how critical is it to build resilience and safety into our three waters – our drinking water, our waste water, and our stormwater. We’ve under-invested and we need to play catch up – more funding should to be set aside in the LTP.
Engineering isn’t particularly sexy, a lot of it is hidden away. And you want to keep it that way. The last thing we need is rivers of shit running down our streets.
I understand we need to pay for it all and my family and I fully support the proposed rates increase.
Ok, that’s pretty much all.
As a team, you have some big decisions ahead of you.
I’d like you to ask yourself what are your passions, why are you here, why are you sitting through all these submissions? I’m guessing it’s not for the pay check.
Stealing from a recent politician's valedictory speech "Presently we are stuck. To get unstuck, we will all need to let go of some things and to be more committed to finding the answers than to being right or to others being wrong".
This city expects you to live up to your governance role, work together, and find the answers.
At Te Huarahi Linwood Ave School our values are Be Your Best, Be Strong (kia kaha), Be Brave and Be Respectful.
I hope you will embrace these values too - and I thank you in advance.
📣 Our 2022/23 impact report is now live!
Over this past year, High Trees has worked with more than 1700 individuals. We’re thrilled to share their journeys and successes in this year's impact report. From empowering individuals to fostering community connections, here are some of the highlights:
📈 Improving life conditions and prospects
635 adults were able to develop their skills by accessing at least one of our 80 adult education courses, with 154 of them gaining a new qualification. Through our employment and careers service, we also supported 115 individuals into employment.
🌱 Increasing wellbeing
Both adults and young people reported improvements to their wellbeing. 77% of adults taking part in our adult education courses reported making new friends. For young people accessing our coaching support in schools, 88% said they felt more confident and independent following our coaching sessions.
🤝 More connected individuals and communities
Our listening campaign on the Tulse Hill Estate led to 284 residents taking part and having their voices listened to. From this, 52 community leaders emerged and went on to receive mentoring support. Community leaders on the Tulse Hill Estate formed a dedicated resident’s group ‘Tulse Hill Estate Unites’. Supported by the High Trees Community Action team, the group has been campaigning to tackle structural damp and mould issues on the estate.
🌟 A stronger, more connected and collaborative VCS
This year we worked in partnership with fifteen other Lambeth-based organisations, across five distinct partnerships. Through the Lambeth Community Hubs Network we published 19 free resources, leading to over 400 downloads. As part of the Building Young Brixton partnership, we supported a total of 3,493 young people across Lambeth.
🔉 Communities with a stronger voice and ability to influence change
Through the Lambeth Peer Action Collective, 258 young people became engaged in social action projects. These activities followed on from the LPAC research on Understanding Young People’s Experiences of Violence in Lambeth. Residents from the Fields Estate were also supported in their engagement with local housing associations and in working towards setting up a TRA on the estate.
These are just a short snapshot of our impact, to find out more, please download our impact report here ➡ https://lnkd.in/eDJb_d6c
Finally, we want to say a massive THANK YOU to all our supporters, partners and funders! 💛 Your support enables us to continue delivering targeted and local services, remaining responsive to the needs of our communities.

Hello All,
Let's get real.
This project is another masterpiece of Mr. Steven Levene/COO of Metrolinx.
The steel span Through Plate Girder over existing Tracks at Newmarket 4.90 Davenport has many structural concerns.
Mr. steven leven/(current COO of Metrolinx/ by then VP of RailCiorridor) decided to create a Risk Assessment Team Meeting (on Friday, June 4, 2021 1:30 PM-3:30 PM, ) and chaired this Team meeting.
Created +/-35 pages of check marks, and he concluded that:
all are good, the Case Closed!
The above case was opened by an engineer (Name DELETED] of RailCorridor to begin with.
the steel span was a Through Plate Girder, TPG, +/-100 ft long, double track, and amazingly, Direct Fixation.
Why Direct Fixation instead of Ballasted Deck?
Everyone knows that Direct Fixation will reduce the life-span of the bridge from +100 years to around 30 years.
well Metrolinx has the answer!!!
Also, the girders have top and bottom flange splices, as well as web splices exactly at the same location: one series on the North side of the span and one series on the south side.
the above splices means that the weakest point of the top flange is aligned with the weakest point of the web and aligned with the weakest point of bottom flange, at two separate locations, one on the North side and one on the south side.
you do the math!!!
If you want more information, please let me know.
Also, on September 18th and 19th, 2024, in Louisville, Kentucky, during the Arema Annual Conference, Metrolinx gave a presentation regarding the elevated bridge at Davenport Diamond, Newmarket sub/MX, and New Toronto Sub/(of a real railway).
Ironically, Metrolinx did not talk about this portion (steel double track TOG crossing over the existing tracks of another railway) of the project.
the bridge designer was not part of the presenter team.
The bridge contractor was not part of the presenter team. I doubt that there was even a representative of the actual designer and the actual contractor team at Arema 2024.
The people at the Arema Conf. 2024 were asking why?
Well, the answer is: there is a series of serious issues with that steel span bridge over the New Toronto Tracks.
Stay tuned for more info.
