When running containers in AWS, you often need to decide between Amazon ECS and EKS. Both are powerful, but they serve different needs. Amazon ECS is great if you want an easy-to-use service that’s tightly integrated with AWS. It handles the heavy lifting, especially when combined with Fargate, so you can focus on your application without managing servers. Amazon EKS is ideal if you need the flexibility of Kubernetes. It’s perfect for advanced scenarios like running workloads with complex scaling requirements. For example, with ECS and Fargate, you might launch a microservices application that scales automatically with basic metrics like CPU usage. On the other hand, EKS could be better for applications needing fine-grained control over scaling, such as adjusting the number of pods based on custom metrics or scaling GPU-intensive workloads for machine learning. #aws #cloud #kubernetes #innovation

Everyone wants to save on cloud costs and one key part in that with AWS is using Spot compute. In many cases you'll likely want a mix of Spot and On-Demand. Keeping the balance when Spot instances get reclaimed is important. An interesting approach on that is in the link below. EC2 or Fargate Spot instances can save you big $$$s if you can make them work with your use case. You get a much cheaper rate but with the catch that AWS can reclaim the instances with a 2 minute notice. If you are fine with starting your workload over when this happens or if you can save your progress within this 2 minute window and continue on a new instance then even better. The solution below from Micaela Marrero takes advantage of Eventbridge events that show up when Spot instances are reclaimed and AWS Lambda functions to handle processing.
