I’m grateful for the opportunity to deliver the opening keynote speech at the twenty-second session of the #UNCTAD Intergovernmental Group of Experts on Competition Law and Policy on "Inclusiveness and participation in the ICN: fostering engagement of younger agencies" today. What is the International Competition Network (ICN)? 🌐 🔸 A unique community: the ICN is a support network of over 140 competition agencies, focused on cooperation and exchange. 🔸 Member-driven: the work programme is set by the agencies themselves. 🔸 Flexible & voluntary: the ICN's recommendations are non-binding, offering valuable guidance without imposing rules. It was great to attend the ISACA Melbourne Chapter conference recently. Sharing some of my key takeaways: 1 - The coming Australian Privacy Act reform may expand privacy and data protection requirements to SMEs. 2 - The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC) has moved from providing data privacy guidance to aggressively enforcing compliance. 3 - Using the EU AI Act as a guide, federal and state legislation on the use of AI in business is probably coming to Australia soon. #privacy #cybersecurity #isacamelbourne #riskmanagement

Yesterday marked the inaugural high-level meeting of the Joint European Forum for Important Projects of Common European Interest (JEF-IPCEI) organized by the European Commission 👇 IPCEIs empower Member States to collaborate and coordinate resources, allowing breakthrough innovations and advancing major infrastructure projects to achieve common European objectives 💶 🚀 🔍 The forum aims to increase the effectiveness of IPCEIs and to identify relevant strategic technologies or infrastructures for potential future IPCEIs. 🤝 The JEF-IPCEI brings together experts from Member States, EFTA states and the Commission services. The first two technical meetings of the JEF took place in October 2023 and January 2024.     Discussions at the meeting led to the establishment of a comprehensive work plan for 2024, with a focus on achieving tangible outcomes by year-end 🎯 📌 Notably, participants explored the identification of new potential candidate technologies or infrastructures for future IPCEIs. 👩💼 👨💼 Member State authorities and the Commission services will now conduct further collaborative efforts implementing the work plan to improve the IPCEI process and identify potential future IPCEIs. These days, I have the opportunity to participate in the 16th Mediterranean Conference on Information Systems (MCIS) and the 24th Conference of the Portuguese Association for Information Systems (CAPSI) in Porto 2024. I can observe and attend discussions on new approaches and studies in information systems, particularly those heavily focused on artificial intelligence and its various fields. However, the most important aspect of this moment is the sharing of knowledge, the feedback exchanged, and the networking that enhances and enriches our understanding of each other's areas of work. The conference is organized around the theme "Navigating Digital Landscape: Bridging Technology, People, and Processes." Successfully navigating this digital landscape requires an understanding of the complex interactions between technology, people, and processes. As organizations undergo digital transformation, bridging these elements effectively becomes crucial. Navigating the digital landscape requires a holistic approach. Organizations must create synergy among technology, people, and processes to foster innovation, boost productivity, and deliver value. The IFIP 9.4 group is close to my heart and has been at the centre of my research for the last decade. I've made many friends and drank a lot of beers at IFIP 9.4 conferences in places such as Tanzania, Indonesia, Albania, and South Africa as I enjoyed long conversations about #ICT4D and the amazing research being done by colleagues. I was delighted to have an opportunity to tell my part of the story of how the 9.4 group has developed and evolved from 1988 to the present day.
