Generic solutions → Generic reactions → Generic results The reality: Your fashion client doesn't want to hear about your platform's universal adaptability. They want to know how you'll handle their specific SKU hierarchy. Here's the progression: SI: "Our platform works everywhere!" Customer: scrolls past SI: "Our platform works for fashion!" Customer: "Tell me more about size matrices..." The secret sauce isn't in the code's flexibility - it's in the story you tell: Universal platform + Vertical-specific messaging = Customer attention Think less "one-size-fits-all" and more "one-size-transformed-exactly-for-you" → Fashion needs size grids → Healthcare needs HIPAA workflows → Manufacturing needs BOMs → Retail needs endless aisle The math is simple: Generic pitch × Amazing platform = Zero interest Tailored pitch × Same platform = Signed contract Remember: Your accelerator can indeed do everything. But your customer only cares about the one thing - their thing. Best practices are universal. Success stories are vertical. 🎯

I wanted to share some insights into how we're ensuring we build a product that truly addresses our customers' needs. ✦ Understanding the Customer Discovery Phase. This phase is pivotal for any startup. It's about identifying and validating the problems our potential customers face. Only when we are confident about their issues, supported by solid data, do we start developing a product or service to address these problems. This phase is not about selling; it's about learning and validating. ✦ Waitlist Launch. This step is a testament to the rigorous Customer Discovery phase we have undertaken. 😮 You’re building a profitable business, not a product, right? #2 of 3 - Technical brilliance doesn't always equal business savvy. Here’s another hack I use to focus/work “on” the business, not “in” the business: #2 - “Think of sales like developing a product” To keep it simple I use a Lean framework: ✅ Think: My product/feature is the flywheel - What’s the minimum I need to do, have, use, measure to acquire customers? ✅. Plan: What’s my most effective MVP? How do I make the most efficient use of people, tech, processes, and systems? ✅. Act: Launch it/put into action and track progress using data, metrics, and KPIs ✅. Learn: Like any retrospective, what’s working, not working, needs work, etc. Adjust and… ✅. Repeat! All kidding aside: I find it highly unlikely that your development or management team is a representative target audience for your software. This means it is incredibly hard to get your product right the first time. The solution: First find your customers, then start development. You cannot find a customer early enough. Sure, it might be harder to sell a solution to a customer if it isn't there, ready to go. But having actual users test your solution on their real problems is paramount. Developing a solution for a real user: 1. Provides Focus for Your Roadmap: Early feedback from real users helps prioritize features and improvements, ensuring your roadmap aligns with actual needs rather than assumptions. 2. Creates Ambassadors for Your Product: Your first users will be deeply involved in the development process, fostering a sense of ownership and loyalty. These early adopters often become your strongest advocates and can help drive word-of-mouth marketing. 3. Reduces Risk of Building Unwanted Features: By involving customers from the start, you minimize the risk of investing time and resources into features that don't solve real problems or that users don't value. 4. Speeds Up Product Iteration: Real-world feedback allows for quicker iterations and improvements, helping you refine your product more rapidly and effectively than internal testing alone. 5.
