Another familiar face - this time in my RM Sotheby's email update. This Saleen #S7 was manufactured when I was head of operations for the company. It will be interesting to see what this extremely rare naturally aspirated, "competition package" version goes for during #MontereyCarWeek2024. This car was fitted with the S7R (the car that won it's class at #LeMans24 in 2010) style rear wing, competition seats with 5-point harnesses and, "Try-Y" headers. As far as I know, this was the only build with all three of these factory aftermarket options on a NA car. Recognition shout out to the Saleen S7 team at the time: Billy Tally, John Spruill, Rob Simons, Troy Shooter, Matthew W. Wright, Derk Hartland, Steve Chamberlain, Derek Lies, Bill Kreig, Doug Nagy, Ron Johnson, Liz Saleen, Phil Frank, John Dillon, Andrew Veneziano, Randy McGee, Felipe Ramos

Did McLaren's 'mini-DRS' rear wing trick help Piastri keep Leclerc at bay in Baku? https://lnkd.in/eDUPew5D A new technical intrigue has arisen in the aftermath of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, with McLaren's rear wing under the spotlight. Footage from the rear-facing onboard camera on Oscar Piastri's MCL38 showed the upper flap distorting under load, with the most visible aspect of this being the outer leading edge of the upper flap which tilts upwards as speed builds. This could potentially give rise to a further reduction in drag and boost its straightline speed and will once again bring the topic of flexi-wings to the fore. So far the questions that have been raised this season have been in regard to the legality of some of the front-wing solutions on display. However, there's clearly going to be a renewed interest in rear-wing deflection and flexible elements for the rest of this season. The intrigue about the McLaren rear wing design comes after a race where Piastri was able to hold off Leclerc despite his rival having the DRS open advantage. (...) #F1 #Formula1 #McLaren

One of just 10 examples of the V8 Vantage GT2 produced by Aston Martin Racing between 2008 and 2011. Featuring a similar bonded aluminium chassis to the road car, albeit one further stiffened by the addition of a roll cage, the Vantage GT2 employed a dry-sump, 4.5-litre version of Aston Martin’s familiar V-8 engine; the resulting unit producing around 450 horsepower. Extensive use of carbon fibre panels enabled weight to be reduced to around 1,150 kilograms; the same material being employed in the car’s downforce-generating front splitter, flat floor, rear diffuser, and rear wing. Subsequent work performed has included the supply and fitment of a brand new engine from Prodrive, rebuilds of the gearbox, differential, and suspension, as well as uprating the electrical, fuel, hydraulic, cooling, and safety systems to the appropriate current, FIA-legal standards. Additionally, the car underwent a comprehensive body restoration—ensuring optimal fit of all panels and components—and a full re-livery to its 2012 Le Mans specification. Notably, the cost of all new components and work performed amounted to almost £360,000. The Monaco auction begins the 11th of May, please register via the link down below. #RMSothebys #RMMonaco #AstonMartin #V8Vantage #GT2

A rare legend - the Mercedes-Benz SLR McLaren Stirling Moss! A modern interpretation of the iconic and successful W196S 300 SLR race car. In 1955, Sir Stirling Moss, accompanied by journalist and navigator Denis Jenkinson, won the Mille Miglia in record time. This 2009 SLR Stirling Moss is a homage to Sir Stirling Moss, his victory and the end of the SLR platform for Mercedes. The SLR Stirling Moss was built on the underpinnings of the SLR coupe, but featured a completely new carbon fiber body, along with new underbody diffuser. Not one single panel was shared with the Coupe. What it did share though, was the same Supercharged 5.5L V8 out of the SLR 722, making 645hp and 605lb-ft of torque, mated to a Speedshift R 5-speed Automatic. Top speed sat at 217mph. That is a lot of wind blowing through the air. This particular example is finished in Designo Mystic White II, with Silver Arrow 300SL Red Leather. In fact, it is one of only four finished in White. And of those four, it is one of only 2 with the optional carbon package as well. Only 75 were made in total and today they have become one of the most collectible cars on the planet. #mercedes #slr #stirlingmoss #supercar #performance #speed #germany 🇩🇪 #Anis_Maaouia

THE RACING MACHINES, PART V. Despite the large cutouts behind the front wheels, the aluminum monocoque of the Lola T260 was fairly conventional for that era. It featured a front and rear double wishbone suspension with Bilstein dampers and coil springs. Originally, the four-wheel disc brakes were designed to be placed inboard at all four corners in order to reduce the unsprung wight, but Stewart vetoed the design after Jochen Rindt's fatal crash in a similarly equipped Lotus F1 car at Monza at the end of the 1970 season. The Lola T260 was powered by a 8.1-liter (496 cu. in.) Chevrolet V8 with Lucas fuel-injection prepared by George Foltz. The engine produced 750HP+ and almost 700 ft.lbs. of torque and it was coupled to a Hewland LG500 4-speed manual transaxle in a package that weighed just under 1600 lbs. (Think about that for a moment.) READ THE COLUMN HERE: https://lnkd.in/efDexsp
