Times of transition serve as moments of both great excitement and opportunity but also moments of risk and uncertainty. In January, I took on the role of CEO at Fortify Health after acting as Chief Strategy Officer from September 2022. This transition was one that was both personally anxiety-inducing and exciting but also reflected a major shift for the organisation as leadership shifted away from its founders. I am proud to say that Fortify Health has leveraged this moment of transition to bring new energy and ideas and continue an impressive pace of growth. This growth means that fundamentally we are bringing more micronutrient rich wheat flour to enable and reduce iron deficiency anaemia around India. To put a figure around this, in March 2024, it is estimated that we reached more than 8.1 million beneficiaries. This represents an increase of over 600% in only a year! 2024 commenced with our annual full-team retreat in Lonavala, Maharashtra. The event was an energising event that saw 58 of our team members come together around the theme of “Implementing at Scale”. We discussed what it takes to scale a health-intervention, the importance of innovation and the underlying values of quality and data-driven decision making that ground our work. The team then returned, to the 8 regions that we operated from, with renewed vigour and enthusiasm. We expanded our open market intervention into Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh, signed long-term partnerships with key vendors and expanded our support with the Andhra Pradesh Public Distribution System. Looking forward, Fortify Health plans to continue to scale our intervention across India. There continues to be a scourge of iron deficiency anaemia, and we truly believe that bringing micronutrient rich chakki atta to those who suffer from this affliction serves as a highly cost-effective and impactful health intervention. We have launched a search for a Chief Programmatic Officer to help support these scaling efforts. This individual will serve as a core programmatic implementer with our mill partners, government partners and other stakeholders and drive Fortify Health into the future.
