Hello LinkedIn Fam! 👋
I want to share some insights about an often-overlooked challenge in digital marketing.
Recently I've encountered a common challenge in website redesigns that often negatively impacts SEO.
Redesigning a website is exciting, it’s a chance to enhance your brand, boost conversion rates, and optimize user experience. But without careful planning, it can lead to a major SEO disaster, often decimating years of hard-earned organic traffic.
Recently, I took on a project where a website with good organic traffic experienced a significant drop after a redesign. It was a tough challenge, but it highlighted the importance of weaving SEO into every stage of a website redesign.
So, here are a few things that I found out and learned during my experience:
➡️ Keep what works: Document the SEO elements driving traffic and ensure they’re factored into the redesign.
➡️ Plan ahead: Avoid unnecessary changes, especially URLs. Set up 301 redirects and maintain your high-performing content.
➡️ Don’t fix what's not broken: Keep things stable where possible, and minimize changes unless they’re needed.
➡️ Monitor and adjust: Track your rankings and traffic after launch, and make necessary tweaks based on data.
Planning and integrating SEO from the start is crucial to avoid losing traffic. Your website redesign should not only maintain but ideally improve your SEO!
