So during the time that we won't mention, a.k.a., the pandemic, TONEHAUS expanded solidly into live video production in response to client needs. Just like we did with audio, we over-engineered the video. Our cameras and audio are truly synchronized - something you may have not heard people talk about, because it is rarely done for production in this budget level. But thanks to this effort on the front end, our easy to deploy system saves our clients thousands in production and post costs throughout the season. Another benefit of our system is that we have a TriCaster - an incredibly powerful video switching machine that is basically an all in one TV studio. Performing artist Bryce Clifford - who splits time between Texas and Ontario - needed a livestream while on an Austin to keep his international fans up to date. Leaning into the TriCaster for the heavy lifting, it was easy to produce an online concert which included a raffle. The camera work was done by TONEHAUS A-Lister Tony Lopez-Cepero. I spearheaded audio and video engineering. Equipment in play was two cameras, TriCaster, a boom mic (out of frame), a hidden wireless lav, placed invisibly as shown in the reel below, and lighting. Some of the features of the live program were: - picture in picture - retro wipes between cameras - graphics / lower thirds for each song - graphics for giveaway (thank you Brad Clifford & Clifford Brewing Company) - pre-recorded video playback - countdown before live - direct livestreaming to facebook - in camera and program recordings If you are looking for a professional solution to reach audiences around the world, TONEHAUS has options from a single video feed to eight camera production. DOOMBRINGER is here! Big shoutout to sound designers David Du & Yichen Wang! I personally was responsible for the overall audio direction, designed some weapons' sounds, and handled mixing and polishing. To BRING (no pun intended) this collection to life, we recorded many satisfying metal impacts, mechanical clicks, and distorted synths to make it brutal, tactile, and RAW. I'm very proud of the result of our fantastic team's work! #Valorant #GameAudio"

How bright does the lighting for your television studio need to be? That's the question I cover in the December "lighting technologies" column for TV Tech magazine. There's nothing arbitrary in determining the right amount of light for a television studio. This column can help you decide what light level will support the beautiful images you want - based on the needs of the camera gear and video displays you have. Check out the linked article here:

We are rolling 🎥🎧🎬 You may wonder what the person behind the camera is doing once they hit record. Well, here are a few of things I am monitoring: 1️⃣ Audio levels 🗣️ Whilst I may have asked you what you had for breakfast to set your audio levels, it’s not too uncommon that once we are recording, you speak a little louder. 2️⃣ Background noise 👀👂 Unless we are in a sound proof room, there will usually be some unwanted sound. So I’m assessing whether the noise is loud enough to warrant pausing until it stops or reduces. 3️⃣ The Camera 🎥 This involves checking the battery status, how much memory the SD card has, exposure levels and also assessing how you’re looking on camera! And this is all on top of listening to what you are saying so if there’s a momentary pause, we know where to pick up from. There’s a lot that goes into video production which isn’t always noticed, so if there’s any part of the video production process you want to know more on, let me know 👇🏻 #VideoProduction #VideoProducer #Videographer #VideoContent

Check out this sound redesign I made for Michelle Cheng's animated short “Glow Up.” The animation has such a unique tone and style, I wanted to bring a highly stylized approach to the sound design. The original short was sound designed by Aashray Harishankar. When I approach sound redesigns, I do not listen to the original audio. It's fascinating to compare my choices with Aashray's once I've completed my design. Surprisingly, we often make similar decisions, like the drawing sounds accompanying the first two lines, or the bandpassed and saturated foley sounds of the bathroom, yet some aspects diverge significantly. My rendition took on a more intense, contemplative, and gritty tone compared to Aashray's sleek and suave approach. Check out the original short in the comments below.

Get ready for Planet Coaster 2 on November 6th! We’ve spent the last month perfecting the audio, managing our most detailed content-management-strategy soundscape to date. Thousands of emitters and voices work together to create an intricate first-person soundscape. No matter what our players build or how they position the camera, the audio is richly detailed and perfectly captures the rides, coasters and the feeling of standing patiently in a queue, waiting for your turn. Since this is a UK game, getting the queuing audio right is VERY important! Pictured are design lead Ben, tech lead Andy and senior audio designer Jon. We're having a relaxed listen to the game on our final-final-v2 day of mixing. In my opinion, this is our best-sounding game yet, but then, I am biased. Shout out to the audio design, production and tech team: Alex, Alexandre, Andrew, Annina, Ben, Benjamin, Daniel, Dave, Ellen, Gavin, Ian, Irma, Jake, James, James, Jamie, Jonathan, Konstantin, Langa, Linus, Matt, Michael, Philip, Robbie, Roland, Sam, Simon, Theo, Toby, Will and Will. Well done, Planet Coaster 2 dev team, we've build a beautiful game together. https://lnkd.in/ep3DVWph #gameaudio #themepark #sounddesign #soundmixing #gaming

Is CGI always the way to go? 🎥 This Throwback Thursday is a re-visit to another old-school piece of Channel 4 broadcast motion-graphics. 'T4' was laid-back weekend programming designed for curing a hangover after the quintessentially British 'Friday night out' and T4's idents illustrated just that: scenes of scattered undergarments, misplaced mobile phones and stale doner kebabs (still looks tasty to me😅😝). Ingeniously concepted, and executed in live-action by ManvsMachine. I couldn't imagine a flashy CGI solution for this scenario, there's something about these simple live-action shots that's synonymous with the simplicity of weekend leisure. As a Creative Director I'm always looking for the best solution to the problem at hand and sometimes that lays in mediums other than CGI. If this line of thinking resonates with you, feel free to write me a direct message, let's shake things up! #creativedirector #creativedirection #freelancecreativedirector #throwbackthursday

♦🎤How did the team behind the critically acclaimed Rebel Diamonds tour, celebrating The Killers’ 20th anniversary, overcome a plethora of unique lighting, audio and staging challenges for the band’s casino-inspired rock show? In the latest issue of LSi (available to read online now), Rob Speight meets the production team and goes behind the scenes at London’s O2 Arena . . . 💎Diamond stage The unique stage features a diamond thrust with flown digital marquees high above the deck. Ensuring adequate sound coverage was a major challenge for the team, who constructed a “wall of sound” behind frontman Brandon Flowers, as broadcast and monitor engineer Marty Beath reflects: “Brandon doesn’t use in-ears, so we’ve got a billion wedges everywhere. It’s about keeping even coverage . . . it’s the compromise we have to come to in order to cover this diamond point. That was a challenge.” 🎤 Striking the balance The show featured a huge, full-width video wall upstage. “Like most shows, we’re competing with video nowadays. But, I think we strike the balance pretty well. There are some ‘non-video’ songs. But we also have to remember that, while from here it might look great if somebody on stage is standing in one single light, we have to make sure an audience member on the 400th level in row X is still getting a similar show . . .” explains Steven Douglas, lighting and stage production designer. ⚡ The iconic ‘K’, revamped The Killer’s signature K-shaped keyboard stand underwent a lighting overhaul, with the new version, built by Largent Studios, being fully pixel controllable and mapped to run bitmap effects in addition to regular DMX effects. “In total, it’s around 5,200 attributes spread over 11 DMX universes,” reveals Douglas. 📖 Somebody Told Me you can go in-depth on pages 26-32 of LSi September, out now! #thekillers #brandonflowers #rebeldiamonds #livemusic #behindthescenes #lightingdesign #stagedesign

When Titans Ruled the Earth (Limited Edition) 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Review - HD MOVIE SOURCE When Titans Ruled the Earth on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is a standout release, particularly for those who appreciate top-tier video quality. The transfer is excellent, showcasing deep black levels that add richness and depth to the visuals. The low noise and minimal grain give it a smooth, clean look while still maintaining that classic filmic quality that I think even purists will love. And yes even with all the special effects flying around, it still looks really good. This is a great transfer from Arrow, and it's hard to find any issues—it's a 5 out of 5 picture. On the audio front, the DTS 5.1 soundtrack is impressive, offering a well-balanced mix that enhances the viewing experience. The surround sound creates an immersive environment, making the most of the film’s epic scale. Dialog clarity is strong, ensuring that every line is heard clearly, and the bass adds a solid foundation to the audio, driving home the impact of the action sequences. While not quite perfect, it's still a very strong 4.5 out of 5 for sound. Listening Levels: -6db Main Volume Overall, When Titans Ruled the Earth on 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray is a top-tier release with exceptional video quality, delivering deep blacks and a smooth, filmic look that’s sure to impress. Coupled with a strong DTS 5.1 soundtrack that enhances the epic scale of the film, it’s a must-have for any home theater enthusiast. MOVIE THOUGHTS A good set of movies. I didn't love them when they first came out, but it's really grown on me. Wild special effects, and they still look excellent. I have fun with this release. Highly Recommended!
