Once you start looking at 8-hours or more the Li-ion battery starts to lose any remaining luster. Already an environmental nightmare with fire / life safety issues that become exponentially larger. Pumped hydro, compressed air/gas, flow batteries all have a better environmental value proposition. Sadly, the first cost rules mentality still tilts the balance towards Li-ion.
