Certifications – are they necessary? 🤔 When I encourage my team to pursue certifications, I often face the question – why should someone get certified if they already have the experience? It's a valid point. However, I believe that certifications serve as industry benchmarks, validating the knowledge individuals possess. Interestingly, many certifications require prior experience for eligibility. Personally, I've found that studying for certifications has expanded my knowledge in ways that I hadn't explored before. For those who are interested in the Certification program check out these new updates. Certification Program Changes and Implementation The SAVE International Certification Advisory Panel (CAP) continues focusing on re-imagining and updating the certification program. As Rob Stewart, president of SAVE, mentioned in his article, the new Value Methodology Fundamentals (VMF) 1 course is now composed of two courses: the VMF 1a and VMF 1b. The VMF 1a eLearning course and the VMF 1b instructor-led training course will be launched October 1, 2024. The updated Value Methodology Associate (VMA) exam will be launched in January 2025. VMA candidates will be allowed to take the existing VMA exam until December 31, 2024, after which no VMA exams will be given until the new exam is launched. Both the courses and exams will be based on the SAVE VM Guide and the final updated Core Competencies. A copy of the final Core Competencies is posted on the Certification page of the SAVE website under ‘Certification Documents’ and marked “PENDING” until the VMF 1a is implemented. At that time, the old Core Competencies will be removed and the “PENDING” label will be deleted from the updated Core Competencies. The updated Certified Value Specialist (CVS) certification program is nearing the launch pad as well. The new CVS application, renewal, and exam process are scheduled for implementation in January 2025. This includes transitioning the CVS exam to an online format and adding a live facilitation requirement to the exam. More details will be shared in the coming months. The Certification Manual is also being updated to reflect all these changes and the new version will be issued prior to transitioning to the new requirements. This will give certification candidates time to review and prepare for the new process. CVS candidates may submit their applications and renewals under the current process until December 31, 2024. No new CVS applications or renewals will be accepted after that date until the new processes are put in place. SAVE will be sending updates and reminder emails, in addition to Value World articles, to keep everyone apprised of what’s happening.
