‼️WE GOT THIS VERY WRONG ‼️ Listen to your audience (sometimes, not always) 📺 We recently changed sets on our weekly football review show “The Football Fill In”. It’s important the show looks right as it’s distributed on Spotify every Monday at 5pm 👍🏼 We have a small office in Leamington and space is at a premium. Right now, we don’t have the luxury of heaps of depth for example and the rooms are pretty tight for space. The top pic was our first attempt and the audience HATED it 😬 The reason…….They felt the desk was a barrier between them and the people on set and the cozy feel they loved, had disappeared 😞. This genuinely didn’t occur to us, but makes total sense 💡🤯 So changes were made based on the audience feed back (bottom pic) and the couch returned with overwhelmingly positivity from Mondays show👊🏼 Huge thanks to Ben Foster older (wiser 😝) brother Ade who built this and for his unbelievable patience ❤️. Audiences seek familiarity. Especially on platforms where they spend a lot of time with creators, they tend to search environments where they can envision themselves in. It's small but underrated detail. We had the same feedback back when I was at Football Daily/Sky, and I've seen the same critic to top creators and podcasts, not just in sports. It's quite disheartening when you spend so much time planning a new set, just to revert back. Well done of listening to your audience and pivoting.
agree - desk is way too formal - nice book called 'what everybody is saying' - all to do with body language and people subconsciously using desks as barriers
Fair play for owning it and sorting it out so quickly! The new setup is spot on—way more chilled and exactly what the show needed. Fans love feeling like they’re in the room with you, so binning the desk was 100% the right call. Can’t wait for next week’s episode now, lads. Keep it coming! 👊⚽
Our hosts once changed seat positions and all hell broke loose in the comments 😂
Audience first... always! Love the pivot and making it familiar
Much better with the sofa’s Tom, feels more relaxed and familiar like your having a chat with your mates. Top work as always 👍🏼
This is why being flexible and open to criticism is gold. Well played!
Yeah, I can see that, I think the the vibe your podcast is going for is mates at the pub. Not pundits on TV. The listener is part of the conversation rather than being talked at and the bottom one feels really cosy and like the hosts are people I may know. Love stuff like this. Shows how important the details and vision for a creative project are. New set looks great!
Yep you made the right call, as the fans have said! So much sports presenting and commentating is now done in studios using green screen tech, I wonder if you guys might like to try recording a session from our studio in Warwick? 😃
