We once analyzed a paper-based protocol of ~100 pages, guess how many total tasks we extracted from it? 1,312! 😱 Sponsors provide protocols to sites as instructions to ensure consistency and standardization during trial conduct. However, when sites interpret the protocol, hidden complexities emerge in the footnotes, which can be ambiguous, out of order, missing, or conflicting. Certainly, the full instructions are fragmented across different documents. 🕵️ During a recent discussion, Meghan Varano, Associate Director, Business Development at Atlas Clinical Research spoke about the challenges presented by paper-based protocols. She highlighted the complexity of conduct, emphasizing the meticulous need to check a variety of resources like medication references or protocol clarification letters to ensure compliance with study protocols. 📝 Imagine how much easier it would be if sites were just guided in real time to do each task in order?
