In this city, nothing's handed to us. We hustle, put our back into it. That's just who we are. Get our hands dirty straight shooting, loyal to the bitter end. Sure, we'll show tough love when we have to, but we ride or die for our teams. And now there's a network just for us. Chicago Sports Network where Chicago comes first.
🏀 𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐞’𝐬 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲 𝐨𝐟 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐈 𝐛𝐞𝐜𝐚𝐦𝐞 𝐚𝐧 𝐡𝐨𝐧𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐇𝐞𝐢𝐟𝐞𝐫.
What started as a quick segment about Granny Basketball turned into a full-blown production: three segments, a live studio basketball game, and me sweating through my granny shot attempts.
Spoiler alert: I didn’t miss my 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘵—I just missed the basket.
Here’s the 𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲-𝐛𝐲-𝐩𝐥𝐚𝐲 from behind the scenes:
🗣 𝐂𝐚𝐥𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐲𝐬: I mapped out the flow and feel of the segment, working hands-on with the crew, graphics, photographers, editors, and social media teams to make sure every detail landed perfectly.
🏃 𝐑𝐮𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐮𝐫𝐭: Imagine three segments, a live basketball game, and a studio buzzing with departments—each needing answers before the shot clock ran out. Managing this production meant directing every moving part: syncing crews, graphics, photographers, and editors while making split-second calls to handle the unexpected. Let’s just say, the real workout happened off the court.
🏀 𝐒𝐥𝐚𝐦 𝐃𝐮𝐧𝐤 𝐌𝐨𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭: The segment ended up being such a hit that the network used it as part of their campaign to promote the show. That? Yeah, that felt good.
𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐓𝐚𝐤𝐞𝐚𝐰𝐚𝐲: Every story I work on leaves me with something unexpected—a little “aha” moment I didn’t see coming. This one? Hearing the stories behind these women and 𝐰𝐡𝐲 they play reminded me that 'slowing down' in life is totally optional and it's never too late for a new chapter...and I definitely want a chapter titled:
🎶 I wanna be a… baller. A granny shot caller! 🎶

Who are the top agency creative directors in the world today? (I’m asking for a friend)
No really.
I’m helping to bring cartoons back into mainstream advertising, and looking to recruit the top ten creative directors to join an advisory board.
I can’t reveal the client’s name, but it’s a major force in the art form.
Cartoons are powerful generators of Flip Moments.
When we laugh, a point of agreement is immediately planted in the reader’s mind.
Take the cartoon below, for example.
If you’ve ever lost a job, you know how random and unfair it can be.
But if this cartoon was part of an ad for Indeed or ZipRecruiter, it would get your attention (because cartoons are the best read and remembered part of anything in print or on a screen), and if you’re laughing, you’re agreeing with our point:
You lost your job.
It’s not fair.
We acknowledge your pain.
Now let’s get you an even better job.
Cartoons are a great way to get people’s attention and get them quickly nodding their heads in agreement.
So, back to my question.
Who do you know, who might you recommend we approach for that advisory board?

Just a simple ad slogan or or powerful message? The story of a copywriter in the 70s who coined a slogan to mark female empowerment across the world! Once again we see the impact brilliant creative development, story telling and excution can have on how things come to be.
Remember when Kevin Hart became David Beckam? #GoodAdsMatter
The plot of this ad may as well be a movie in the making because we are here for hours of this banter. This spoof campaign, for the clothing brand H&M, features comedian and actor Kevin Hart preparing to play ex-England captain, David Beckham, in a biopic based on the latter’s life.
Kevin takes “method acting” far too seriously, as he begins shadowing Beckam, to the point of, occasionally, crossing his personal boundaries. Kevin is everywhere—his house, his gym, on his shoots and even in his bed! His eager beaver attitude doesn’t make it any easier for the soccer star, and naturally, gets on his nerves… but hey, he might as well have started to enjoy it. Just a little bit.
All of this transpires while the two sport matching H&M outfits, and deliver one comical moment after another. That’s one way to incorporate the subtlest of product integrations while keeping the audiences engaged for a whole seven minutes!
