Do you want your PR representative to sit in on your media interviews? Here is why you should consider it. - It allows us to understand the questions the journalist is asking. - It allows us to hear what you are saying—how you position certain statements, how you talk about the organization, and the words you use to describe your products and services. - It allows us a shortcut to gaining your insight, which can give us ideas for furthering your brand. If information is knowledge, this is a great way to get information. (We can do it with our cameras off and mic's muted).

Does upspeak creep into your media interviews? One of the #BestPartsOfPR is showing someone a blind spot. I have given media training to countless experts. But one interaction really stands out. In mock interviews, the CEO was on point and sounded confident. But in the real thing, his voice suffered from upspeak. His intonation rose so his statements sounded like a question. As in, his statements sounded like a question? After the interview, I said it robbed his words of authority. He paused for several uncomfortable seconds, thanked me, and said that was one of the best pieces of communications advice he had received. Sometimes a simple observation makes a big difference. #mediatraining #interviews #PR #mediarelations

Doing a great media interview requires preparation. Here’s your checklist to nail your next one: - Do some homework before your interview - read, watch or listen to some of the journalist’s most recent interviews or stories to help you better understand their tone, expertise and audience to connect with the journalist. - Create a one-page brief for yourself with topics for conversation, key messages, stats, specific quotes and anticipated questions to help you focus on the most important - Create a key message document - Send the reporter - Prepare your professional bio - Follow up after the interview! Follow up after with a thank you note to the journalist for the interview! #jjpr #theprpros #marketingstrategy #pr #smallbusiness #smallbusinesstips #prtips

A fresh take on media interview strategy 🤔 Not every reporter call needs your voice. Before jumping into interviews, pause and ask: - Are you truly central to the story, or just a potential quote? - Is this a crisis requiring response, or just routine media outreach? - Would speaking now serve your organization's interests? - Do you have a strategic-thinking gatekeeper who can spot when to engage vs. step back? 👉 Remember: Declining interviews isn't hiding - it's choosing when and how to tell your story.

Yes, you're busy! But that doesn't mean you should miss out on news opportunities. What if a journalist reaches out with a great opportunity appointment request, and you already have something scheduled at that same time? There's a right and wrong way of handling interview scheduling conflicts. Instead of not responding or saying "I can't," there's a way to begin building a relationship by choosing the right words. Watch this video to build better relationships with journalists and get more opportunities even with your busy schedule! #Interviews #MediaInterviews #JanicekPerformanceGroup #executivepresence #thursdaytip #executivetraining #publicspeakingcoaching

On Media Interviews... My first charge to leadership/executives before and beyond interview settings is this: "If you do not want it reported, do not have it said." At all. Safer for all us. Most especially for the mentally exhausted PR expert who must invest an inordinate amount of time extinguishing fires that could have been easily prevented by just keeping silent. Nothing, absolutely NOTHING, is ever 'off the record'. ***And the chess board... well, may be not a perfect metaphor for this, but certainly, for life! #media #interviews #publicrelations #personalbranding.
