The holidays are full of excitement — but they can also bring hidden risks for your pets and your home. And they’re not as funny when they’re not happening to the Griswold family on your TV! Protect both with these tips: 🎄 Mind the Decorations: Tinsel, glass ornaments and string lights can be dangerous if chewed or knocked over. Securing these can also help prevent accidents like fires or electrical damage. 🍫 Be Careful with Holiday Foods: While some treats are toxic for pets, spilled food and liquids can also stain carpets or damage flooring. Keep meals in pet-safe zones! 🕯️ Monitor Open Flames: Curious paws near candles or fireplaces can lead to unintentional fires. We know your pets are part of the family. Ours sure are! So let’s make sure the holidays are fun, festive and safe for all of us!

The Christmas season is here, and it’s time to pull out the festive décor, set up the tree, and start preparing that delicious holiday feast! But as you get caught up in the excitement, some hidden dangers lurk in the most innocent holiday tasks. You might be surprised to learn that decorating the tree or carving the Christmas ham could lead to injuries – and we’re not just talking about a paper cut from wrapping presents! According to figures from the ACC, nearly 1,200 people suffered injuries involving Christmas trees between 2012 and 2021, with injuries costing over $800,000. And that's just the tip of the iceberg regarding Christmas-related injuries. But don't worry – with some planning and awareness, you can avoid becoming one of these statistics and enjoy a safe holiday season with your loved ones. Here are some common Christmas injuries and practical tips to help you (and your whānau) avoid them. Happy 4th of July! As you enjoy the celebrations, keep your feet healthy and safe with these tips: Wear Comfortable Shoes: Whether you're attending a parade, barbecue, or fireworks show, you'll likely be on your feet a lot. Choose supportive, well-fitting shoes to prevent blisters and discomfort. Avoid flip-flops for long periods, as they offer little support. Stay Hydrated: Dehydration can cause swelling in your feet. Drink plenty of water, especially if you're spending time outdoors in the summer heat. Protect Your Feet from Burns: Pavement, sand, and other surfaces can get extremely hot and cause burns. Always wear shoes or sandals to protect your feet. Apply Sunscreen: Don't forget to apply sunscreen to your feet if you’re wearing sandals or going barefoot. The tops of your feet can burn easily. Keep Feet Clean and Dry: If your feet get wet from water activities, dry them thoroughly to prevent fungal infections. Change out of wet socks and water shoes as soon as possible. Enjoy the festivities and keep your feet happy and healthy!

As you prepare for festive feasts and family gatherings, don’t let plumbing problems steal the show! Here are some key reminders on what NOT to flush or put down the garbage disposal to keep your plumbing flowing smoothly. 🚫 What Not to Flush: Grease and Oil: These can solidify in your pipes, leading to clogs. Wet Wipes: Even those labeled as "flushable" can cause major backups. Feminine Products: These belong in the trash, not the toilet! Cotton Balls and Swabs: They don’t break down and can create blockages. 🚫 What Not to Put Down the Garbage Disposal: Fibrous Foods: Avoid celery, onion skins, and artichokes; they can tangle up the blades. Starchy Foods: Potatoes and pasta can expand and cause clogs. Coffee Grounds: These can build up over time and lead to blockages. Bones and Shells: They can damage your disposal and lead to costly repairs. 💡 Pro Tip: If you're ever in doubt, remember: when it comes to plumbing, it's better to be safe than sorry! Keep a trash bin handy for items that shouldn't go down the drain. Wishing you a joyful holiday season—may your gatherings be merry and your plumbing be trouble-free!

Season's Greetings! As the chill sets in and holiday lights twinkle, the last thing you want is an unexpected home fire to dim your festive spirit. This time of the year is prime for house fires. With cozy fireplaces, sparkling lights, and all that holiday feasting, things can heat up-quite literally. Here’s a gentle nudge to consider these fire safety tips to keep your home safe and joyful: - Check those chimneys! If the fireplace is more of a “decorative feature” than an actual fire hazard, now’s the time to get it cleaned. - No overloaded circuits! Yes, I’m talking about those lights that make your house look like the North Pole. Plugging in too many can turn your holiday cheer into a nightmare, don't be a Clark Griswold! - Don’t leave candles unattended! Because the last thing you want is your festive centerpiece to become an unexpected bonfire. - Test smoke detectors - If they’re silent… that’s not a good thing. Be sure they’re working and have fresh batteries. - Keep heat sources clear! That cozy heater shouldn’t be surrounded by a mountain of laundry. In short, let’s keep the only thing burning this season to your favorite holiday cookies! Remind your family and friends to take a few simple steps to keep the season bright—and safe. If you need any more tips, advice, or need help with an unfortunate accident, you know where to find us! Stay safe (and warm), Your friends at G.W. Savage
