Work can be a frustrating and annoying place at times. We can get angry, upset, sad, disillusioned when things don’t go our way. All of those emotions are valid and you should take time to reflect on them and work through them. However at the time you are feeling them take the time to work on you, concentrate on your self care and getting yourself back on an even keel. This is not the time to shoot off a text message or an email complaining about a customer, or a colleague or using langauage that might not be the best in hindsight. We’ve all sent that email or text that we regret in the heat of the moment, but now imagine a roomful of strangers hearing that read aloud. In front of a judge. Trust me, it happens. So the next time you get ticked off at someone, take a walk instead of sending a message you might regret. Think about you and your needs and not about them. #selfcare #humanresources #linkedin #whatinspiresme
I need this reminder to flash up on my screen a 100 times a day!
Todd Hopwood, A small pause between the impulse and response can go a long way from being reactive to being connected.
Such a great point! I’ve been there, and stepping away for a bit really helps prevent regret later Thanks Todd Hopwood
Great advice, thanks Todd
Does it need to be said? Does it need to be said by me? Does it need to be said by me now? Unless you get 3 yes's its best to stay quiet.
When your life is at risk trust me you must come clean, after all the system is infiltrated, donkeys are leading the show, we all know how they reach to such positions while unqualified. We witness the death of many worthwhile people who were sending alerts and calls of emergencies to interfere, yet we left them down, relying on the system who hire untrustworthy corrupted people who operate in gangsters style, covering each other faults, mistakes and crimes. Which means in many cases, playing with evidence and lying even to their superiors. Now, we are attacked for bringing them to light in order for justice and order to take place!
YES! YES! YES! I have done Billing Coordinating for over a handful of years now and this is what I keep in mind! No matter how irritating it can get to not get a response or you find yourself fighting for information needed in order to process things correctly, always always always add fluff to your email! - Friendly greeting (while you clench your teeth) - Refraining from being wordy, typing your inquiry and adding fluff (while biting your tongue… you’re not in Good Fellas and that won’t end in your favor). - Always keep your team in the loop and go smoke a cigar while quoting the Godfather. Always honey and no vinegar…even when you want to sting!
Work can be tough, but don’t let a single moment ruin your whole day, take time for self-care and approach things with a clear mind, Todd.
Well said Todd, exactly, thank for sharing, I'm listening salsa right now.
I help executives, entrepreneurs & senior leaders prevent and minimise integrity and people conduct issues. When things do go wrong, I help them respond the right way, the first time!
5dI had a great manager many years ago who taught me “the 24 hour rule” and I swear by it. Something upsets you? Makes you angry? Close the email and put your response on ice for 24 hours. More often than not you will feel drastically different the next day, albeit more calm and measured. And if you feel a response is warranted, at least you have had time to calm down, think it through and consider a respectful response. Thanks “un-named manager” 😉
