My ad nerds and I remember this 2010 Super Bowl commercial for its sweet conscious-coupling story that unfolded in a search bar (we hadn't seen the likes of this creative tactic before). It came from Google and it was called "Parisian Love." Unicorn AI startup Perplexity decided to reimagine the spot, calling it "Parisian Dream" and aiming to make a point about its rival search. Does it work, LinkedIn friends? Discuss! "I believe that we're going see a new rise of what I'm calling creative tech – not just dynamic creative optimisation ... I'm talking about new tools that are applying data to not marginally improve the efficiency of ad spend, but to actually address the effectiveness of the ads, which is primarily the creative. — Terence Kawaja CEO, Luma Partners Every creative impression offers a powerful learning opportunity, revealing how customers respond to your brand. Two big lessons here: 1. OOH works 2. Don’t let it lead folks to your competitors 😂
Co-founder & CEO at AiSDR | 2x Y Combinator alumni | 2x Forbes cover | 1 exit | building the leading AI sales platform in the world and sharing the journey publicly
The best performing ad campaign that we didn't run. This week we closed 2 deals from the same ad campaign. Founders in San Francisco were walking around the city and saw a pretty massive outdoor ad campaign for AI SDR. They Googled it - jumped on a call with us and subscribed to AiSDR. After BREX's success it's pretty popular for YC companies to massively invest in outdoor ads in SF to build awareness. Here is one thing though - the ad wasn't ours. It was one of our competitors - Piper by Qualified, but when you read the ad, you don't remember Qualified - you remember AI SDR - you google - you find us. Voila. There are two lessons for startup founders here: 1. Be very thoughtful as to how you design your outdoor ads. Make sure people can find you, when they see those. 2. Be very thoughtful when naming your company. Honestly, when we build the best AI sales platform in the world and people will ask me about reasons for our success - picking the right name will be one of those.

The aphorism, ‘a rising tide lifts all boats’ suggests that an improved ecosystem benefits all those who take part in it. Probably, this is how an advertising technology (ad tech) ecosystem works. In that context, advertisers seek to reach consumers, and it is here that publishers offer advertising real estate, and consumers navigate a world saturated with marketing messages. When advertisers, publishers, and consumers all benefit from the system, everyone seems to win. Affle, a global ad tech company, works in this ecosystem. The company posted a 29.04% increase in revenue from operations from Rs 1153.331 crore in FY22 to Rs 1488.28 crore in FY23. Its net profit increased by 14.33% to Rs 245.466 crore in FY23 from Rs 214.692 in FY22. Had an insightful conversation with Vipul Kedia, where he talked about how the company is catering to multiple stakeholders, its patented AI capabilities, and transforming ads into recommendations technology, among others. The Power of Advertising as A Growth Accelerator Literally billions of dollars flowed from one location to another location after this company convinced two securities analysts to write about the improving prospects for a new [ADD CATEGORY HERE] being developed internally. Where once a few hundred (or maybe a few thousand) people were aware of the company's scientists, lab-coated and working diligently to create a new [ADD PRODUCT HERE], now many tens of thousands who read the analyst's regular coverage notes knew about the company. Importantly, many liked the story they saw. Awareness (once called "reach") is a mathematical proposition. It's also agnostic; it doesn't care how you came to know about [ADD BRAND NAME HERE], it only wants to check you off the 'we told him/her/they/them' list. My argument? Figure out how to tell people about your [ADD PURPOSE HERE] at a rate that is both increasing, and sustainable to ensure growth. And yes, it helps if [INSERT PRODUCT HERE] is actually better, bigger, faster, cheaper, etc.

Jeff Bezos-backed Perplexity is rolling out its advertising platform. One of the most intriguing developments in digital advertising last week came from Perplexity.ai’s announcement about experimenting with advertising on their platform. The cost of running AI models is astronomical. More than subscription fees are required. I see AI engines experimenting more and more with ad-driven revenue. Perplexity is leaning toward contextual relevance, ensuring ads align with user intent and the content experience. Experimentation is the lifeblood of progress in our industry. One interesting fact is that Perplexity is not using genAI for ad text generation for brand safety reasons - at this point, the advertisers will pre-approve ad copy. Read more: https://lnkd.in/gUjmyWns What’s your take?
