We are happy to share our latest publication on novel climatic resilience traits derived from automatically recorded vaginal temperatures in lactating sows. These indicators aid in breeding more heat resilient pigs, particularly during lactation when sows face increased heat stress—a significant challenge in the livestock industry. Our findings highlight the heritability of these indicators and their potential to enhance animal welfare and production efficiency under heat stress conditions. “The NASA of Argentine livestock”: a research and development center that disseminates information to make meat production more efficient Biofarma created a space to generate and disseminate the knowledge that leads to success in any meat production company. It is located 14 km from Jesús María, Córdoba. Argentina works on its specific biotypes and feeding systems, all of which imposes the need to generate its own data with precise details in its production processes, applied to achieve successful business management as practiced by successful companies in the sector. In this context, @Biofarma , a leading company in the #animalnutrition and health sector , opted for the development of CENAB , its Experimental Center for Animal Nutrition , located 14 km from Jesús María, which during its three years of life has fulfilled a fundamental role, being baptized on more than one occasion as “The NASA of Argentine #livestock. The person who knows the Center and the tasks carried out in depth is its Technical Manager Juan Manuel Bollatti, who states: “As we complete the first three years of the Center's life, we can analyze the progress that has been made in each of the 3 axes. of work established at the beginning of the project which are: research, training and production.” For his part, Román Irurtia , Technical Commercial Manager of Ruminants at Biofarma, adds: “All this information developed during these years is the result of the interaction we generate with our clients - whatever their production scale (from 500 to more than 70,000 heads) -in different areas of the country; where our technical team collects concerns or productive vicissitudes that are then the subject of study at the Center.” Biofarma participates in the supplementation of more than 550,000 heads daily throughout the year, which are under a semi-intensive or intensive feeding system.” Irurtia concludes by highlighting: "We envision a transformed Argentine horizon in terms of meat production. The Research Institute for Farm Animal Biology (FBN) presents itself with new focal points, a new organisation and a fresh presence A new chapter is being opened at the FBN with the Livestock Forum: the long-established research institute is presenting a new research programme at the high-profile conference. Director Prof Dr Klaus Wimmers sums up: "Four years of intensive work lie behind us, during which we have put everything to the test. We have not only created a new structure, but above all identified new focal points in order to develop concepts for future livestock farming." Four focus topics for more interdisciplinary research Instead of six institutes, research at the FBN will be more interdisciplinary in future: in four focus areas in which scientists will jointly research the physiological and ethological abilities of animals as well as their interaction with the environment and the underlying regulatory and adaptive mechanisms. In this way, sustainable solutions and scientifically sound compromises can be derived that reflect animal welfare and health, efficient resource utilisation and the promotion of biodiversity.
