Mamoon Sbeih, APCO President for the Middle East & North Africa, highlighted recent extreme weather events in Dubai and Mumbai as stark examples of the growing climate crisis. The year 2024 has been particularly severe, with numerous extreme weather events worldwide. I can quickly add a couple more extreme events off the top of my head: Heatwaves in countries like the Philippines, Thailand, Bangladesh, Saudi Arabia, flooding in Brazil, Kenya and Houston, USA. Despite growing awareness of climate change, there is a significant gap in public perception regarding the actions taken by businesses and governments to address it. It’s time to improve communication and take decisive action on climate change. The Climate Action Confidence Tracker (https://lnkd.in/dk-JmCDr), conducted by the #APCO Insight team, found that the language used by companies to communicate their climate actions often fails to resonate with the public. Many people find climate-related communications confusing and are unsure about who is actually taking meaningful action. Our study also showed that social media and company websites are key sources of information on climate action, and the private sector is seen as crucial in solving the climate challenge. To address these issues, Mamoon Sbeih suggests five key actions for communicators: 1- Use simple, relatable language and visual techniques. 2- Be transparent about progress and challenges. 3- Launch initiatives to deepen understanding and empower action. 4- ... Despite the challenges, there is optimism that global net-zero targets can be achieved by 2050. I share this optimism and believe that we can make significant progress if we work together! As climate change accelerates, cities and organizations are ramping up efforts to meet their decarbonization targets. One impactful step is reducing fossil fuel dependency, as we've done through our Natural Gas Free Program with the city of Amsterdam. "Climate change and global warming are driving the energy transition," said Carolien Gehrels. "Arcadis is well placed to partner with clients on this because we are able to draw on examples from projects all over the world and bring learnings to other cities, countries or communities to solve these challenges." Climate action discussions are gaining momentum globally because the impacts of climate change are becoming increasingly visible and severe. Extreme weather events, rising sea levels, and biodiversity loss are no longer distant threats but present realities affecting millions of people. As scientific evidence continues to highlight the accelerating pace of climate change, there is growing recognition that immediate and coordinated efforts are essential to mitigate its worst effects. The urgency of these discussions cannot be overstated because the window for effective action is rapidly closing. According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), we have only a few years to drastically reduce greenhouse gas emissions to avoid catastrophic global warming beyond 1.5°C. Failure to act now would lead to irreversible damage to ecosystems, more frequent & intense natural disasters together with severe socioeconomic consequences, especially for vulnerable populations. #BeingGreen #BGET24 #ArdentYouths #ClimateChange #BeingGreenEcoTour #ClimateAction #SustainableFuture #ActOnClimate #ParisAgreement #GlobalCollaboration #ClimateJustice #GreenEnergy #EcoFriendly #NetZero #SaveOurPlanet #RenewableEnergy #ClimateCrisis #CarbonNeutral #EnvironmentalProtection #GoGreen #ParisOlympics #Paris2024 #France #Tanzania #GIAAOM
