I am delighted to share the culmination of several months time spent studying the CPG industry's commitments to #regenerativeagriculture in conjunction with CREO. Regenerative Agriculture is a movement that is intensely needed at scale across all food systems, and regeneration can also be interwoven at the foundation of almost every single industry and economy in the world. Our findings: - 68 out of the top 100 food companies have shared something centered on regenerative agriculture, more than half have specific commitments. - We don't have enough #agronomists in the pipeline and will continue to need many more as the decade unfolds. Direct work and trust building with farmers is crucial to this effort. Solutions must be built from the soil and up. - We need more incentives for diverse #croprotations as a shift to polyculture and continuous living cover are necessary for local and regional water cycles and aquifer recharge. - Premiums and the lack of willingness to pay them or pass them to the consumer are a concerted issue for the broader movement as CPGs still think of these as "commodity" costs when they are actually foundational "retooling" costs to stabilize future business operations. - Consumers are interested in engaging with regenerative agriculture when they know it is tied to their interests in taste, health, quality and nutrition but brands are lagging in this area. - Life Cycle Assessment methodology gaps are a global risk as it relates to the absolute value of regenerative, organic, perennial, and Indigenous managed lands. We need better data on the already best in class cropping systems. - We need new #mindsets for the work ahead! Collaboration - not competition - is the only way forward to scale the solutions needed! I hope you'll take a look at the report and the outcomes mapped within, then roll up your sleeves even further and dig into the regenerative movement! Reach out if you need further inspiration! With much gratitude to Gabriela Leslie for the wonderful partnership and clear vision in bringing this to fruition!
CREO is excited to publish a public summary of our commissioned consultant study by Tina Owens tracking #regenerativeagriculture targets set by the Top 100 global food companies. The study found that while 68 out of the Top 100 CPG companies in the world have specifically mentioned regen ag in public-facing documents or interviews (up from 58 in the spring of 2023), there is an enormous amount of variability across metrics used, acreage targeted, and dollars deployed to support such goals. This is amazing!
Thanks for this, Tina Owens and Gabriela Leslie! Great summary analysis. Very much echoes our learnings. Vayda is hyper focused on solving the gap in regen agronomy through our tech enabled service that is already being provided to growers farming close to 100k acres. I spoke a bit about this in a recent podcast with Innovation Forum, in case interesting. https://lnkd.in/ecnResMW
Madiha Nawaz Thought you’d like to read this publication. Enjoy.
Yes, polyculture. If benefit yields higher price and this is passed to farmer, farmers can make it happen. Thanks for sharing this Tina Owens
Well done, Tina! These insights are helpful to furthering the broader regen movement!
Congratulations Tina Owens! I look forward to reading the study-and to seeing the regenerative movement mature and be more effective based on reports like this, and guidance from pioneers like you!
Bravo Tina! Insights mother lode.
way to bring it Tina! sweet set of potent learnings.

7moVery informative summary; kudos on the good work. The summary highlights the gaps/needs/challenges, which can be viewed through the "jobs to be done" lens as opportunities. The most intriguing to me personally are evaluating the incentives for the producer, supply chain and consumer, and considering the winners in this space that can provide the tools and services to enable success. The changing competitive landscape ahead is exciting.
