🌟 Embracing the Body's Wisdom: The Path to Healing Trauma 🌟 In the realm of healing and personal growth, understanding the role of our body in processing trauma is crucial. Somatic Experiencing (SE), developed by Dr. Peter Levine, offers a powerful approach not just to cope, but truly heal from trauma by tuning into our body’s natural rhythms and responses. Why is it important to ensure the right conditions before starting therapies like SE? Here are a few key factors: 1. Safety and Stability: Engaging deeply with our inner experiences requires a safe external environment. This foundational safety helps us navigate intense emotions and sensations without external stressors. 2. Emotional Regulation: Before delving into body-based trauma therapy, possessing skills to manage emotional upheavals is crucial. It ensures that we can face intense feelings without becoming overwhelmed. 3. Therapeutic Alliance: Trust in our therapist acts as a secure base, enabling us to confidently explore vulnerable spaces within ourselves. 4. Awareness and Insight: Being mindful of our bodily sensations is vital. This awareness is the first step in decoding the messages our bodies have been holding onto. 5. Willingness to Heal: Ultimately, our readiness and openness to explore these deep-seated experiences are pivotal in our healing journey. Somatic Experiencing teaches us that healing isn't just a mental process but a holistic one involving our entire being—body and mind. If you’re considering this path, ensure these conditions are nurtured. Your journey toward healing is not just about finding peace but about reclaiming your vitality and embracing life’s full potential. #TraumaRecovery #SomaticExperiencing #MentalHealthAwareness #HealingJourney #BodyMindConnection Feel free to share your thoughts or experiences with body-focused therapy in the comments below or connect if you're interested in learning more about this transformative approach! 🌱

So well written. However the idea, in real time/encounters of embracing the journey together, can be a very tall request. The social mechanisms of solidarity/belonging is a good principle, but is the vision a utopian wish or a substantively realised social contract? Do sentiments shift for the better as 'times comprehended in thought' "What is a decent society? The answer I am suggesting is roughly the following: A decent society is one whose institutions do not humiliate people. I distinguish between a decent society and a civilized one. A civilised society is one whose members do not humiliate one another, while a decent society is one in which the institutions do not humiliate people." Avishai Margalit. The Decent Society 1996

🕒✨ Time does NOT heal all wounds, especially trauma. It’s a common misconception that trauma simply fades with time. But here’s the truth: trauma goes deeper, embedding itself within us. 🌱 We don’t grow out of trauma; we grow INTO it. Ignoring it, burying it, or dissociating from it doesn’t erase its impact. Instead, it manifests as physical symptoms, particularly during periods of high stress. 🚨 Ignoring these symptoms only leads to a cascade of additional signs, layering tension, pain, anxiety, fear, and rigidity. This affects our nervous system’s adaptability, trapping us in a survival state. 🛑 Survival tactics hinder clear communication, decision-making, understanding our purpose, and choosing long-term safety over temporary chaos and excitement. We seek quick fixes instead of healing processes. ⚠️ Healing requires revisiting these non-verbal, emotional states stored in our bodies—sensory, energetic, visceral. It’s about relearning how to experience emotion, allowing our bodies to discover new choices beyond fear and disconnection. 🌺 This journey reopens emotional circuits, fostering new brain signals and expanding our capacity for connection, patience, and vulnerability. 🧠💖 Understanding the critical role of the nervous system in healing is the first step. It’s a path that demands time, commitment, and an openness to vulnerability. #25 Motivational Mondays 🌟𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝘀𝗻’𝘁 𝗮𝗹𝘄𝗮𝘆𝘀 𝗹𝗼𝘂𝗱: 𝗙𝗿𝗼𝗺 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗣𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗮 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝘂𝗺𝗮 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗶𝘀𝘁 🌟 As trauma therapists, we see strength in the most unexpected places. Healing from trauma isn’t a straight path—it’s messy, exhausting, and sometimes feels impossible. → But here’s what I know: every step forward, no matter how small, is a testament to resilience. For our clients, just showing up for another session, facing memories they’ve buried, or learning to trust themselves again is an act of courage. Sometimes, it’s not about massive breakthroughs but about recognizing the bravery in their consistency, vulnerability, and determination to heal. Today, let’s remind ourselves—and our clients—that progress isn’t always loud. Sometimes, it’s found in the quiet moments when they choose to keep going despite the weight of the past. 💡 If you or someone you know is walking this path, remember: you don’t have to heal alone. Support, community, and persistence make all the difference. With trauma, no matter how long ago something happened, the past IS the present, unless healed. The old myth of ‘forgive and forget’ is not humanly possible. Similarly, time does NOT heal all wounds. “Trauma is not the story of something that happened back then. It's the current imprint of that pain, horror, and fear living inside people.” - Dr Bessel Van der Kolk The amygdala stores the visual images of trauma as sensory fragments, which means the trauma memory is not stored like a story, rather by how our five senses were experiencing the trauma at the time it was occurring. That’s why when we get ‘triggered’ it feels like the event is happening all over again. It is also why body based therapies (things like EMDR, Brainspotting, Somatic Experiencing or Internal Family Systems) are so important and just talking about it is not enough. The ability to talk about the trauma without the bodily reactions, is a sign that healing has occurred, but it is not what does the healing. Having said that, relational empathic, compassionate connection, just being with someone in their pain, seems to go a long way. So, maybe the most important thing, especially right now with collective trauma ensuing around us, putting us at risk of taking it on vicariously, let alone the ones being directly impacted, is this: If we have an empathic and attuned person to be there with us, listen, hold and be present with us, the long term consequences of trauma do not occur. #trauma #connect #beattuned #bepresent #haveempathy #havecompassion

Talking about childhood trauma with your therapist is an important first step, but it’s often not enough to fully heal for a few key reasons: 1️⃣ Trauma is stored in the body: 🧠 Simply talking about it doesn’t always address the deep emotional and physical responses stored in the body. Methods like timeline therapy, reiki, or breathwork can help release trauma from the nervous system. 🧘♀️ 2️⃣ Rewiring negative patterns: 💭 Childhood trauma often creates limiting beliefs and patterns that continue to shape behavior. Just discussing it might not shift those beliefs. Proactive work, like Neuro Transformation Therapy or cognitive-behavioral techniques, rewires the brain for healthier patterns. 🔄 3️⃣ Emotional regulation: ❤️ Talking might help bring awareness, but it’s important to learn emotional regulation techniques to handle overwhelming feelings that resurface when discussing trauma. 4️⃣ Unconscious healing: 💫 Deep-rooted trauma can be subconscious, so methods like timeline therapy, visualization, or inner child work are needed to access and heal hidden parts of ourselves. Talking is essential, but integrating other healing methods is what truly creates transformation. 🌱 #TraumaHealing #InnerChildWork #EmotionalHealing #HolisticHealing #SomaticTherapy #MindBodyConnection

🌿 Behind the Scenes with Jenn Gulbrand: Trauma-informed Somatic Therapy & EMDR🌿 As a dedicated Somatic Therapy and EMDR Practitioner, I have the privilege of assisting clients in releasing trauma stored within their bodies. Traumatic experiences often leave imprints not just on our minds but also within our physical selves, manifesting as tension, pain, or emotional blockages. Through somatic therapy, we focus on the mind-body connection, helping you become attuned to bodily sensations and emotions. This awareness allows for the gentle release of stored trauma, fostering healing and resilience. Incorporating EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), we work together to process distressing memories by engaging in specific eye movements and other forms of bilateral stimulation. This technique aids in reprocessing traumatic events, reducing their emotional charge, and integrating them into your life narrative. Every session is a step toward reclaiming your body, mind, and spirit from the grips of past trauma. It's an honor to witness the transformation as clients move from a state of survival to one of thriving, embracing their authentic selves with renewed strength and clarity. If you're ready to embark on this healing journey, know that a compassionate and supportive space awaits you. #SomaticTherapy #EMDR #TraumaHealing #MindBodyConnection #JennGulbrand #HealingJourney #Resilience #EmotionalWellness

In therapy, particularly in approaches like somatic experiencing or body-oriented therapies, asking a traumatized person "where do you feel that in your body?" can be beneficial for varied reasons: To develop embodied Awareness Trauma can get "stuck" in the body, leading to physical symptoms or sensations. By focusing on bodily sensations, folks can access and process these embodied aspects of their trauma, which might not be accessible through just talking. Practice Regulation and Grounding: Bringing attention to physical sensations can help the person stay grounded and present, reducing the risk of becoming overwhelmed by traumatic memories. It can also aid in developing better emotional regulation. Integration of Experience: By connecting bodily sensations with emotions, the person can work towards a more integrated understanding of how trauma shows up in their body, leading to more holistic healing. Release of Tension: Physical awareness can lead to the release of stored tension and stress in the body, which is often a part of the trauma response. This can result in a sense of relief and increased well-being. While talk therapy therapy is valuable for understanding and re-contextualizing experiences, integrating bodily sensations can enhance the therapeutic process by addressing the somatic aspects of trauma. Both approaches can complement each other to provide a more comprehensive healing experience. #embodiment #thebody #healing #holistichealth
