An estimated 321,566 children in the United States lost a parent to drug overdose from 2011 to 2021, according to a study published in JAMA Psychiatry. The rate of children who experienced this loss more than doubled during this period, from approximately 27 to 63 children per 100,000. The highest number of affected children were those with non-Hispanic white parents, but communities of color and tribal communities were disproportionately affected. If you or anyone you love is struggling with alcohol and drug use, call the Center for Behavioral Health (CBH) in Amesbury to make an appointment with a counselor: 978-834-6583. #substanceusedisorder #overdoseprevention #alcoholusedisorder #mentalhealthawarenessmonth

Latest research from the team at the Forensic Psychiatry Institute: “Despite evidence that psychological treatments benefit from pre-treatment intervention, there remains no published research on the value of including a pre-treatment intervention in forensic mental health settings. The present study aimed to address this gap by examining the effects of adding a brief motivational preparatory program (MPP) to standard forensic psychiatric care.” Moulden, H. M., Matthew, S. A., & Chaimowitz, G. (2024). Enhancing pre-treatment motivation improves forensic mental health outcomes. Outcome measures are important…subjective “feeling like what we do makes a difference” and having baseline data and measurement-based care, leads to more of a “knowing what we do is making a difference”. I’m so glad to be a part of a strong clinical team that looks at data in various ways to help inform our treatment and interventions. #measurementbasedcare #outcomes #scienceandresearch
Little Warriors recognizes the importance of continually assessing and improving program design for our Be Brave Ranch intensive treatment programs. The proportion of females diagnosed with autism in the state of North Carolina has increased steadily over a 20-year period, which likely reflects greater societal knowledge of how autism may manifest differently in females. This is a key finding of a recent report, “Are the diagnostic rates of autistic females increasing? An examination of state-wide trends,” published online in January 2024 in The Journal of Child Psychology and Psychiatry. Every week at Child Psychiatry Centre, NIMHANS, fuels my passion for learning and understanding the challenges children face. Each session teaches me something new about the real struggles they experience and how we can support them. It’s not always easy, but these experiences remind me why I chose this path. Day by day , I feel more motivated to show up, learn, and make a small difference in their lives. My passion for working with children keeps me committed to showing up, no matter how challenging the day may be. Watching their resilience and growth inspires me to keep learning, growing, and contributing to their well-being in every way I can. #MentalHealthMatters #ChildPsychology #NIMHANS #LearningWithPurpose
