#happyjuneteenth #juneteenth from @asiko_artist • Where is your light Our cultures are the unique hues in the grand tapestry of humanity, they tell the stories of where we’ve been and guiding us toward where we’re headed. We could say our cultures are part of the makeup of our light, guiding us and our communities into the future. In the state of globalisation the world has never been closer, we have all become interconnected through our economies, our social media, our technology etc. Globalization has its merits, to know what different cultures are doing to manage their finances or their developments in sustainability. The easy exchange of ideas is powerful thing in the world we live in. There’s a big but here, how do we function in this world that is becoming more interdependent where foreign culture supersedes local and traditional cultures. There is a great possibility we loose ourselves and identity in this new world. The key here is for artists and creatives to tell the stories through their work and importantly digitally document these stories. Through the work to contribute to the grand tapestry of the African story, which is complex and diverse. There are lot more things to do concerning communities and governments but that’s a more complex conversation for another day. So share your stories, honor your roots, and never forget: the world needs your light. #CultureAndIdentity #asiko #Inspiration #WhereIsYourLight #culturaltapestry #africatotheworld

As culture keeps changing with time, many societies tend to lose touch with some of these traditions. Türkiye has undergone a similar transformation with "tooth rent", a tradition that has all but faded from society since the days of the Ottoman Empire. Recently, I had the honor of hosting Loung Ung, author of the powerful memoir First They Killed My Father: A Daughter of Cambodia Remembers, as a speaker at the 3rd Global Peace Summit 2024. Her journey, depicted in her book, is a testament to resilience, courage, and the triumph of the human spirit over adversity. During our dinner together, Loung shared profound insights. She spoke about the prevalent focus on negative narratives in media and journalism, often emphasizing sensationalism with the adage "if it bleeds, it leads." However, she proposed a paradigm shift, advocating for a movement where we embrace and amplify positivity. Her simple yet profound mantra resonated deeply with me: "If it's awesome, let it blossom." These words reminded me of the importance of spreading positivity and uplifting stories, especially in today's turbulent times. It's a call to action, a reminder that we have the power to shape the narratives we consume and share with others. As I reflect on our dinner together and the invaluable insights Loung Ung shared, I'm filled with gratitude. Gratitude for her unwavering commitment to peace, for her dedication to changing the world one story at a time. Let's join hands and embrace the spirit of positivity. Let's champion stories of hope, resilience, and compassion. Together, we can create a world where peace flourishes, where kindness abounds, and where the mantra of "If it's awesome, let it blossom" guides our every action. Peace is not just a distant dream; it's a tangible reality within our grasp. Let's make it happen, one inspiring story at a time. #SpreadPositivity #Inspiration #Gratitude #PeaceIsPossible 🕊️
